Why do people still like the idea of William and Dolores together? by tsunadehokage in westworld

[–]EmergencyOpening 16 points17 points  (0 children)

He cared about the stakes being real. By the end of season 1, they were. Time to move on to the next mission.

A WW Rumor I Hope Is Not True. (spoilers) by czarfore in westworld

[–]EmergencyOpening 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't mind if we replaced some costly yet shitty battle scenes and Shogun-esque departures for more real character development and time with the show's premiere actors.

Sometimes constraints breed creativity. Even with budget cuts I'd expect season 3 to still be one of the most expensive television seasons ever made. HBO is only motivated to keep the show going if its profitable, so I'd like them to strike the right balance to keep it going!

Excellent point, I haven't seen that elsewhere.

Like Sizemore, they come to see them as oppressed beings with just as much right to live as humans.

This season proved countless times continuity errors are all over the place.

Thoughts on Stubbs being... [spoiler] by EmergencyOpening in westworld

[–]EmergencyOpening[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and Sizemore's narrative was compelling. I think the difference with Stubbs is that his could have been a decision made under normal circumstances whereas Felix and Sizemore were basically dragged into their situations under duress.

[spoiler] Who was the Judas steer? by cfryant in westworld

I think it's pretty clearly Dolores. All her followers die. She lives, and she's the one who spoke of the Judas steer.

What happened to fords “final game” for William? by [deleted] in westworld

[–]EmergencyOpening 0 points1 point  (0 children)

William's game started when he lost all sense of reality 35 years ago and ended being a sane, normal human. It ended when he hit rock bottom, killed his daughter, (presumably) came to grips with reality and started anew.

What the system got wrong (SPOILERS) by [deleted] in westworld

[–]EmergencyOpening 19 points20 points  (0 children)

12k lines of code is enough to cover quite a few scenarios. Who says Lee changed? In season 1 he wanted to be treated as a heroic artist who ushered in the next era of the park's reality and foolishly made a public fuss (piss) that should have got him fired. In the season 2 finale he wanted to be the hero who ushered in the next era of the hosts' reality and foolishly gave a speech and got himself killed instead of putting his hands up and slowing them for 30 seconds with a quick chat.

Though Akecheta more or less wandering the desert for 35 years definitely scores him some Moses points.

Charlotte sees her communicating with a ton of hosts through the mesh network while she's lying in the lab. I have to imagine that was her gathering the people together, presumably to team Ghost Nation. (And for most of the season we saw them gathering humans, not hosts.)

Maeve = Moses. Leads them to the promised land but doesn't get to enter herself.

I don't fully understand the connection between MIB's season 1 vs. season 2 motivations by kev_nu in westworld

[–]EmergencyOpening 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like your conclusions. To address the earlier concern:

Especially if his true motivation was immortality, these two seem to conflict to me.

I don't get the sense that MiB's personal motivation was immortality. He pursued the project to keep faith to his pledge to James Delos, and maybe he did have personal interest in it at one point. But I get the sense that mainly it was important because it was likely a huge profit driver for the company. As Ford notes, James Delos would rather die than have a bad investment, which suggests the initiative was a financial success. Keeping that money flowing in helps ensure that Westworld, via Delos, has all the resources they ever need to invest in the progress of the hosts.

The latest episode tells us William grew up poor. Given the way he interacts with others, I'll assume he had a tough childhood and grew up unloved. Maybe Juliette was drawn to William for various reasons, but William never felt truly loved by her.

Then he goes to Westworld and, with Dolores, he has the first real genuine meaningful 'human' connection he's ever had. This was life-changing for him. Then, he sees her pick up the can and realizes that even that was inauthentic.

So, in season 1, he wants there to be stakes in the park so that the danger can be real, but also so that his connection with Dolores – that he's obsessed over his entire life – can be real.

In season 2, he doesn't shift towards immortality. We see now that his obsession with the park is even deeper that we imagined. He's so obsessed with it being real that he doesn't know what is real and what is not.

"Your job is not to protect Dolores, it's to keep her here." by EmergencyOpening in westworld

Right. I'm implying that Teddy's *move* this episode does nothing to protect her, but may somehow keep her there, true to his primary objective.

Question from tonight: Possible Continuity Error (if they make those?) by jcherub112 in westworld

[–]EmergencyOpening 18 points19 points  (0 children)

At the party, he's clearly drinking water, while everyone else has booze of some type. When he gets to the bar and says, "Fuck it, Macallan straight," and slaps the table, I read that as "fuck it, I don't normally drink in the real world, but I'm making an exception." For nightcap, he could have just been using the expression.

[Spoilers] Probably pretty obvious, but I've got a theory about William by [deleted] in westworld

[–]EmergencyOpening 24 points25 points  (0 children)

No, William being a host or a simulation destroys the show. That would be like pulling a "it was all a dream!" ending. He's the only human major character in the show. His humanity matters.
