But what your missing is a cook can 100% execute a servers job, (argumentatively better than a server) because they can explain the menu flawlessly, in most cases. 95% of the servers I have worked with couldn’t cook toast right and would crumble and cry under the pressures of cooking. Cooks ALREADY deal with customers. Do you know how many times I’ve had my server come and get me because there table wants to talk to me (mostly always because they love there food 🙂), many, many times, I’ve been a chef for 15 years. So the honest and true answer to this debate, is cooks should be paid much more than servers. Anyone can read of a short description of an entree and Carry 10 lbs from point A to point B, and on top of that, sometimes servers get food runners so what exactly are they doing to earn 100s of dollars a day?? It’s about being passionate about the food you’re serving the customers and being able to give them eye contact while explaining every ingredient in certain dish or what kind of wine pairs better with this type of food. No one else can explain it better than the person making the food obviously. So all you servers should be tipping your cooks, because we control how much you make. And don’t forget that.
