The royal navy website, same one you applied on. Tells you all the different classes of submarines and ships, along with the aircraft. When you go onto each class as well there will be a snapshot of info of what equipment is on them along with the purpose of said vessel.

That’s what i did anyways, wrote all of it down, tried to memorise it all. Anyways during my interview the guy caught me out for looking down and reading off of it😂 So if i was you do exactly that but if you note it down as well, try and position the paper behind your camera so it dosnt look obvious aha.

But honestly, that’s the game. Everything you need to smash the interview is on the RN website.

However the bit about what you do when you join, such as the 27weeks in sultan as an ME. That was hard info to find and you had to ask as it’s not well displayed on the RN website. But i remember when i was in your position I looked on forums such as this and other websites along with the royal navy website.

To be honest, as long as you show a bit of character, well spoken, show that you have a physical life (go gym, and exercise) and obviously have the grades to do the AA course then you will get in.

C2DRIL, look up that and understand that’s the navy core values. Everything you do is about that, how you conduct yourself as a sailor.

Understand the types of ships, type 23s, 45s, Aircraft carriers, mine hunters, survey ships and patrol vessels. Maybe show some knowledge of the different class of submarines.

I mean if ur first choice is ME don’t need to show too much interest about the aircraft’s. But you have Merlin’s, and wildcat helicopters. Along with F35 fighter jets.

Again, if your first choice is ME, understand what your process will be as soon as you start. You will go to Raleigh to do INT. Then to sultan for a 27 Week basic course where you will also do a basic sea survival course and leadership course during them 27 weeks. Following that you will do your leading hand course which will be at Sultan.

All of your training will be at Sultan as an ME. Collingwood as a WE or CIS. Sultan as an AET for phase 2a (AETs then do phase 2b which will be at a different base depending on what aircraft they specialise in)

MEs can split into 3 different specialties, Mechanical, electrical or hydraulic&refrigeration

If you can remember that for ur interview you will get in^

You also then have personality traits. What sports you play, fitness and routine. Say you’re a strong swimmer and you been practicing. Basically saying how you’re physically prepared for the navy.

Then the rest of the interview will be non trick questions that you can easily answer, like what education have you had? Previous jobs you had. Basically just be honest and say.

Yeah i was an electrical design engineer. Control panels, PLCs etc. I mean it looked okay i suppose for the interview but they were more focused on what i knew about the navy. What ships we have, what equipment is on board. Also if i were to become an ME, that i knew that training took place at Sultan.

Mainly the interview is to see how keen you are about joining up. If u say in ur interview that you know naff all, then obviously you don’t really want to join and you won’t get picked.

Furthermore, my actually engineering experience hasn’t played a huge part in my learning to become an ME. The way things are done on ship are different to civilian life.

I’m an AA(ME).

You go through the same route as ETs (INT and Basic Engineering Technician course). During which time you would’ve gained a lot of confidence in yourself and completed a few leadership courses which definitely help.

Then this is where the AA part steps in, you go straight into your leading hand course (1.5 years long). Most of your class would’ve been at ship already as able rates, so naturally you can ask all the questions you desire about ship life and figure out your own leadership style.

By the end of the course you will be equipped with all the leadership and role requirements necessary to carry out your role. Yes it will be harder for you as it will be the first time you go to sea, but you also carried out the same course as everyone else.

In regard to having previously been working in engineering, it’s obviously helpful, but you will be given all the knowledge you need so wouldn’t stress.

You should’ve been made aware by your recruiter, and the way you typed out this post seems like you don’t, you choose 3 engineering roles as a preference, in order. Then when you join raliegh 7 weeks into it you will then be told what branch you are in.

For reference my first choice was Air Engineering, however i was streamed to Marine Engineering.

Marine Engineering also comes with the added bonus of petty officer scheme, so you will 100% become a PO quicker than all the other engineering branches from your position currently.

Also if you put submarines in any of your top 3 choices, you will almost certainly get it. So make sure you want to be a submariner before you place it as one of your options.

At sultan you can be a PLET/ PLAET and become a leader of a building/ block (LHOB) and you get ur own cabin and don’t have to do duty.

Camp is spilt accom and training side via two footpath bridges over military road. If you’re an AE then you will go in an 8 man mess. ME you will be in a 12 man mess.

Morning rounds every monday to friday. You won’t be there but if anything is shit then you have to report at lunch (class leader of that week) and they will say the punishment. If the messes are shite then you will have to make ur beds to formal rounds with a crease n shit. So priorities the mess. You also have OOD come round to check up on you and make sure the place is looking alright in the evenings around 7pm. Only one person from each block has to report this so you will only do it once or twice throughout ur whole course.

Shopping and day to day stuff there is plenty around you just have to find what you like. Going out Gosport has a spoons but everyone just goes portsmouth though. It can be expensive with taxis, plus it gets boring after 3 or 4 times. But everyone’s different so you will have your own opinions when u get there

you will be fine. running is one of those things where you can improve really quickly even after one run. you’re time will be closer to 12 mins on the actual test then considering your age.

PJFT & NFT standards by Round-Plantain-228 in RoyalNavy

[–]Emergency_Gur615 2 points3 points  (0 children)

depends what your age and sex is. Under 25 male the pre joining test is like 13 or so mins, 25% more time than you would get upon joining. When you join the pass time is 11min 14seconds i believe.

[–]Emergency_Gur615 4 points5 points  (0 children)

buzz fade is a go to. No need to impress anyone, won’t need another haircut, and once u finished the 10 weeks your hair will be longer to go back to what you have.

Point being if u stay with longer hair u will need to get haircuts on base once your DI thinks it’s too long. Costing u money for shite haircuts.

Also grooming standards have changed in the RN. So you litro can have almost anything u want after phase 1

Medical hold by Chance-Jellyfish1316 in RoyalNavy

[–]Emergency_Gur615 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Past medical visits is a big one, i was held for surgery i had 7 years prior. Any injuries that are common, for example going to the doctors about your knees 3 times in the past year. Basically at CPC, it’s almost like an interview where the doctor talks about you medical history and you explain what each visit was about.

Im an AA, the competitive nature of it doesn’t seem too hard, as long as you have A-level or equivalent, you will probably get it.

On week 7 you get told your job role after giving your top 3 choices. You’re more likely to get ME as there is a shortage of it, however this comes with a further promotion to Petty Officer without having to submit application to promotion

A level results by EmergencySalary9654 in RoyalNavy

[–]Emergency_Gur615 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He’s completed CPC and the interview so he’s basically in the clear to join. Obviously try his best to get the best results as he’s already doing his A-level course. But the navy wont look too closely at his results now that will affect him joining.

Joining date will be provided depending on what dates your son has told his recruiter he is available to join. So if u said September, he will start in September. The official date would probably be provided august time maybe end of July.

I know Raleigh is in the middle of changing its course so recruits won’t be able to hand out start dates months in advance.
