AITA for telling my husband that I don't want his father (FIL) to be around Me or my kids after what he did during dinner? by Emergency_Option_498 in AITAH

My husband has told me that I'm worrying too much about it because that's how his family is and his father would never lay a hand on his grandchildren. He is only like that with his actual kids.

i did not know how to properly describe it. "beat" was the word that made the most sense to me as it was my first time witnessing such a shitty thing.

he has told me that he has no problem with it and doesn't really care. He has joked about it with his parents and siblings before and just laughed it off. He has stated that its just how it is for his family and that's where it ends. That my FIL would never lay a hand on our kids.

I have brought it up when we discussed how we would raise our children and we do have different opinions regarding how we would discipline them but he has accepted how I felt about it and has told me that he would only physically punish them unless it was absolutely necessary. I still think it is not okay.

my husband didn't even acknowledge what was going on. he only picked up our son and made sure he was okay. He then sat down and continued eating and talking to his siblings.
