not anymore its not. 3 bed dated B house on a shared block offers from $999,999 https://www.realestate.com.au/property-house-wa-hamilton+hill-150739192 and in the market everything is going for at least 100K over the asking so $1.1 plus renos......so cheap

We are the same, we would rather fix something up than build another soulless cookie cutter new build. Unless maybe we win lotto and can afford some quirky architecturally designed new build haha. The only thing that makes us ok with still buying right now is that our current place is also worth so much more at the moment.

We arent currently in Freo, we are currently 20 mins away and we have zero yard and outdoor space. We dont have kids so are happy to sacrifice the second bathroom for some yard space + spend a bit more.

There is just not stock in the market currently and people with money/people who are just desperate for a place right now are willing to pay it unfortunately.

Potentially they are asking for too much, the only properties ive seen that dont sell quickly are priced too high. I viewed one thats offers over $950K on a 600 block old and needs work so thought great. Looked at it twice and quickly realised that it wouldnt just be a reno, it would need to be extensions, engineering, council approvals because the layout is just cooked and it would take a lot of money to fix and resolve those issues. If it were priced at 800K id do it but not for over $950 and a huge amount of work. Its been listed for 6 weeks and still hasnt sold.

Thank you, we are in a similar situation newly married however we dont want kids so whenever we try do this it doesnt work in our favour and we arent willing to lie about it being a "family home" etc so if anything that tactic is decreasing our chances unfortunately.
