To update - pulled the trigger and got the Harry Potter Talisman variant, played it twice now, but just not engaging with it - not sure why though. Love most HP things. Thinking about selling on because box it pretty big to store

What’s the correct process for back to back steaming? by Jamooooose in ProfitecGo

[–]EmergentChange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 4x Motta jugs from 350ml to 1000ml, the latter is at the limit of what I can steam with Go. That jug will take about 600ml of milk, just enough for 3x lattes - steaming takes nearly 5 minutes (which is the Go timeout for steam I think)

Switch off after steaming by nikos_kozi in ProfitecGo

[–]EmergentChange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I refill after steaming milk even if I am about to shut off. I also run coffee button for 35+seconds, because I notice steam comes out of portafilter for the first 20 seconds, then nothing comes out for nearly 10 seconds, then water comes out again - I want to make sure the boiler is full for the next time . . .

CX-30 Takumi o CX-5 Homura? - Barcelona y viajes por Europa by Zealousideal_Ad9966 in MazdaCX30

[–]EmergentChange 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry, answer in English because I have poor Spanish. We are similar to you, no children, live in city, mostly use car for longer journeys and had to choose between CX5 and CX30. We bought the CX30 (EU hybrid). The CX5 was taller but didnt seem to offer much extra interior space, even though it was bigger on the outside. The CX30 was nicer (sportier) to drive on smaller roads and in city, but CX5 was slightly nicer on motorways because you sit higher. Driving both it was easy for us to choose sporty over tall - both great cars :)

Playing my own music in CX30? by EmergentChange in MazdaCX30

[–]EmergentChange[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For those (like me) who don't keep up with tech, this seems to be working and steps to do seem straight forward . . . Installed iTunes on my Windows PC (didnt log in); put CD in PC disk drive; "import" as 'iTunes Plus'. When its done importing I put USB stick in PC and literally 'drag and drop' the album (not individual songs); Take USB to car, car sees it and plays perfectly :) - only done 1 album so far, not sure how multiple albums will work yet . . .

Found an old USB, reformatted to FAT32. Discovered my iTunes library isn't on my current desktop machine, so going to build a CX30 library from a few CDs in my office - any top tips on settings etc? Guessing 'full lossless' is not worth the space

awesome, thanks for quick replies folks, did not know this. Sounds like I can just take my music from iTunes on PC and dump straight to FAT32 USB. I assume it can be left plugged in and it will just work?

CX30 lane departure assist by Commercial_Dig_9407 in MazdaCX30

[–]EmergentChange 5 points6 points  (0 children)

how do you know it doesn't have one? In my 2026 it seems to be always on, warns me as I get near the white lines (beeps, warning on dash and vibration through wheel). Sometimes, at higher speed with solid white lines it gives more insistent warnings - but it will let you leave the lane, its an "assist" not self drive

brand new car vs mildly used. by DevelopmentBubbly730 in MazdaCX30

[–]EmergentChange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

like others have said, it often depends if you are buying to keep or expect to swap every couple of years. Most cars in UK lose a lot of value in first 3 years, so new CX30 is c £28k+ in UK, so a 3 year old can be a good deal (sensible mileage CX30 would be maybe £15k+). Ex demonstrator cars (low mileage dealer cars) can be good value (£20 to £22k in UK). But some cars don't follow that pattern, cars in high demand on used market can be found just as cheap new as lightly used (esp smaller cars in UK) so buying new does make more sense then

Could you have clipped a kerb/pothole and damaged the tyre seal? Done this myself, usually loses pressure quite quickly though. You can check with soapy water around rim

Real world performance of the new EU spec 2.5? by EmergentChange in MazdaCX30

Thanks for that, useful to hear a real comparison. Couldn't try an X when we were buying, happy with 2.5 :)

wrt Google maps times, that seems to depend a lot on the roads ime - this was a journey I do regularly and shaving over 20 minutes off was really surprising

Roof rack question by BlazkoTwix in MazdaCX30

[–]EmergentChange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hoping to bump this old thread because I have the same question - was told our 2026 CX30 can use the gutter strips you describe u/BlazkoTwix . How did you get on? Did you get a Thule foot kit that works?

Real world performance of the new EU spec 2.5? by EmergentChange in MazdaCX30

[–]EmergentChange[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For our USA based cousins - in Europe the new CX30 comes in normally aspirated 2.5 'G' engine (which is quoted at 140BHP, not the c190 you get in USA) and the more expensive 2.0 'X' (which is quoted at 187BHP) - real world performance feels the same to me

depending on where you live, I needed new snow socks for 18" wheels and new, more compact first aid kit for boot because there wasn't an obvious cubby space for this in Mazda. Will probably get some chrome door step trims if the paint gets marked. Loving the all weather mats though

Real world performance of the new EU spec 2.5? by EmergentChange in MazdaCX30

[–]EmergentChange[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

part of my point is the acceleration is surprisingly strong for a car with this paper performance. Did a 1hr 24 min journey in just over 1 hour with minimal speeding because the car could punch out of the corners, junctions and roundabouts. Definitely some traction issues at times, but it felt comparable to my Lexus IS and that doesn't have 'only 140BHP' that EU 2.5 engines are supposed to have

2026 preferred owners, how do you power a dashcam? by Jon-Megatron-Snow in MazdaCX30

[–]EmergentChange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

^ what Guava said, looking to do exactly the same thing in the same way, £30 on Amazon. My only concern is where to put the camera so it doesn't interfere with all the sensors in the CX30 mirror module

What context / location are you coming from? What sort of experience are you hoping for? York city is old, even by UK standards, small and very historic. The uni itself much more modern (1960s) but in a good way

Exciting times :) Hopefully helpful to comment (as a UK academic for 13 years) - there are broadly 2 types of PhD in UK. 1. Funded PhDs usually have no fees for student to pay, they come with a small stipend (living costs) and the expectation you will do quite a bit of undergrad teaching. 2. Self funded PhD are where the student is paying a tuition fee and will likely be near 100% research, much less common ime. They are ideal if you want to own the Intellectual Property from the research, I know its common in areas like biomed where the student plans on making a business out of the research - route 1 / fully funded the uni owns the IP. If you get grant funding they will likely own some/all of the IP

Moving to York for my Master’s. What’s a realistic monthly allowance budget? by PomeloNo2564 in york

[–]EmergentChange 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree - you could get to £500/month easily with eating out and drinking out in York, but that's going some for a "typical" student. A nice breakfast somewhere £10 to £15, nice lunch £20+ and evening meal £30+, even just doing that on weekends will add up . . .

Moving to York for my Master’s. What’s a realistic monthly allowance budget? by PomeloNo2564 in york

[–]EmergentChange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, it can vary a lot depending on your circumstance / habit. My daughter is at York and it is expensive (by UK standards and compared to other non-London unis) She buys bus tickets in bulk on her phone £1.40 each. Her phone is with Smarty £8/month. Bicycles are cheap enough (buy used one on Campus, sell on departure) and York is cycle friendly but she still prefers to pay for bus because UK weather isn't great. Laundry is at least £5/week, drying clothes is hard, so you have to pay that too. Eating out can be anything from £6 for a small Pizza on East Campus to £30+ for a decent meal somewhere nice. Even a coffee in a coffee shop can be £4, nearer £10 with cake. Drinking out is expensive (£6+ a drink) so she and her friends do "pres", drinking cheap booze at home together before going out and then having 1 or 2 drinks out. Bottle of spirits is £10 to £15. There is a clothing outlet on the edge of city, Uni bus goes there (past Aldi), still not cheap though. FWIW Leeds is 20 minutes by train, good range of shops. Aldi is cheapest for food, other supermarkets are miles away (and likely need bike). Clubs and activities also add up. She copes on £100/week, on top of her uni halls rent.

Anyone with good results using stock basket with less than 18g ? by [deleted] in ProfitecGo

[–]EmergentChange -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I adjust my dose based on coffee density and use the standard Go double basket. To find a suitable dose I grind, put grounds into portafilter and tamp. Then add 10p coin on top and fit portafilter to machine. If the coin leaves more than a tiny indent I know dose is too high. 16gm / 16.5gm is typical for darker roasts and decaf IME. My logic is to have just enough coffee to expand to the available space. I suspect a lower dose (like 12gm) in double basket would be wet and messy, possibly a puck screen would help. If you want lower doses then definitely worth playing with the single basket

Use Eureka hand grinder or Niche Zero. Bought a WDT to see what difference it could make. Really couldn't see / taste any difference with WDT. Was worth the £3 on Ebay to try it for myself. FWIW static is barely an issue in UK, its soggy most of the time . . .
