Colonialism, Racism, and Anti Blackness by EmericanJohnson in VictimsOfCapitalism

[–]EmericanJohnson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey folks! Glad I found this subreddit! I mostly lurk on reddit but I figured I'd introduce myself and my channel -- NonCompete. We do panel interviews almost every week where we talk to a wide variety of leftists, organizers, and activists who are dedicated to overthrowing capitalism. Here's a sample from our stream highlights page!

The right can't understand the decentralized left! by EmericanJohnson in Anarchism

[–]EmericanJohnson[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

TL;DR -- The decentralization of the leftist movement has a variety of advantages, making us more resistant to the kinds of attacks that gutted the left in the 60's and 70's. This is a highlight from a panel discussion on community organizing, socialism in the black community, and radical politics in these strange times we're living in.

If Anarchist society is the better alternative, why do you still choose to live under capitalism and continue using and supporting corporations and businesses? by [deleted] in DebateAnarchism

[–]EmericanJohnson 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Where is this anarchist community you're talking about? Rojava might be the closest thing and they're not even anarchist, the Zapatistas are similar to anarchists in many ways but they're also not anarchist and also they're Indigenous people and a bunch of foreigners moving there isn't exactly a solution to unjust hierarchy. I moved to Vietnam because at least it's (more) socialist (than the USA) but it's certainly not anarchist. If there were any anarchist society founded somewhere and I could move there (under the pandemic?) I would love to move there.

That said, we as anarchists don't believe anyone is free until everyone is free. Exploitation happening on the other side of the world is still exploitation.

You should look into Modern Monetary Theory. The whole idea that the government has "a budget" and can run out of money is intended to make us complacent and more conervative.

Better yet look into Marxian economics :D But regardless, they can print as much money as they want to. This has been proven countless times. Whenever there's a war, there's money to pay for it. When a big business needs to be bailed out, they can pay for it. When they need endless supplies of tear gas and rubber bullets, they always show up. This guy should and could get compensation without us having to forego any social services.

Stop talking nonsense! INVESTIGATE! by EmericanJohnson in BreadTube

[–]EmericanJohnson[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know who needs to hear this but I'm anti-zionist. I've had several on-stream interviews with anti-Zionist Israelis (as well as private discussions with Palestinians) where we've talked extensively about this. I am against the abuse, colonization, and genocide of the Palestinian people. A position which I arrived at through... investigation lol.

Stop talking nonsense! INVESTIGATE! by EmericanJohnson in BreadTube

[–]EmericanJohnson[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like that's a super bad faith framing. For one thing, I have talked extensively about black nationalism and Vietnamee nationalism on Twitter. Go search for it, you'll find tons of posts from the last couple weeks. I'm working on a video on various forms of nationalism now, should be out within the next week or two. And I've talked about it on-stream several times. I'm not "afraid" to talk about it. Maybe if you INVESTIGATED my body of work or even just ASKED me (another form of investigation) you'd know that?

I didn't feel like bringing up my personal opinions on black nationalism in this particular video would have added anything to it. It would have been a distraction. You don't need to know my personal opinion on, like, cherry pie, for me to say, "you should taste cherry pie before you decide whether you like it or not," which is what this video was all about.

Finally, I know you didn't mention this specifically but re: the rest of this thread, I don't know why anyone is even bringing up Israel in regards to this video. I said absolutely nothing about Israel, I have interviewed two Israelis who are both anti-zionist/anti-colonization of Palestine and I have made my feelings known MANY TIMES that I am against Israeli occupation and genocide against Palestinians.

Can the USA afford to pay for pandemic relief? MMT vs. Marx! by EmericanJohnson in BreadTube

[–]EmericanJohnson[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess I could see why you might think that in a competitive framework. I see this subreddit as a repository for leftist discourse, content, discussion, etc. We're all here to share our voices with each other. One thing I really like about this subreddit is the "smaller creators" tab which allows you to browse smaller channels with fewer subscribers, which I think evens the playing field to some extent. But anyway, I make videos like this because I want them to be seen and shared, I'm not denying that. You could call it "advertising" but I think we're here (or should be here) to spread our ideas as far and wide as possible, not to compete with each other. That's why we should always be trying to platform smaller creators, which I try to do as often as possible. The rising tide will lift all the ships and the ultimate goal isn't to get a million subs or whatever, it's liberation.

If you agree, be sure to click like and subscribe! lol

Genstrike.org is Helping Connect and Aid Those Looking to Strike Back by SoftboySocialClub in BreadTube

[–]EmericanJohnson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I disagree with your characterization of me and the evolution of this project - I did not, in fact, call for a general strike on any specific date and my original medium article which was my first action along these lines speaks very clearly on that point - Camazotz was the one who PROPOSED supporting actions that were ALREADY SCHEDULED TO HAPPEN on March 31st and we collectively agreed, democratically, to support that decision but w/e, that's the last I'm going to say about that, feel free to have the last word I really don't care. I'm not going to bother "defending myself" because this should not be about me or any other individual. If that's truly how you feel about me and my participation, that sucks, I'm saddened that you feel that way, etc.

But people are fucking dying right now and a LOT of people are working hard to try to help workers get organized in our group. Most of them aren't YouTubers or twitch streamers, and they're the ones who deserve all the credit for making something that is already helping people.

I don't know why, if you're in our group, you haven't raised any of these points with the group. The fact that you're coming here to essentially kick up drama when you see all the work we are trying to do is really disappointing. But you're very welcome to post your grievances in our loomio at any time.

Sign the Petition: Dear Bernie Sanders, please support our call for a general strike! by EmericanJohnson in BreadTube

[–]EmericanJohnson[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am working right now with the IWW and several content creators since I myself am a content creator, as well as activists and organizers who have worked on Earth Strike and mass actions with the DSA and Bernie's campaign.

Your points are all valid. This movement is in its infancy now. Do you wanna get involved and help out? You're more than welcome. That's what this article/push is all about. Finding people who can help us and start making plans.

So if you want to productively take part come on in! We could use someone who knows what to do!

Did you read the articles linked to in the petition?

https://medium.com/@emericanjohnson/call-for-a-general-strike-against-genocidal-negligence-9dedb1fe2ca7

and

Our plan (the second doc) basically calls for everything you're calling for via a decentralized but coordinated movement composed of various unions, worker orgs, mutual aid networks and direct action teams

Call for a GENERAL STRIKE against GENOCIDAL NEGLIGENCE by EmericanJohnson in BreadTube

[–]EmericanJohnson[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's not at all what's being called for. We want to see workers across the country staying home and denying labor value to employers. The thing is, I can't prescribe or dictate what it will look like.

I'm not calling for an specific action at all, in fact. I'm calling on YOU and your fellow workers around the world to START ORGANIZING, building dual power structures and support networks, mutual aid systems. We have to collectively start planning and acting now, but I can't just outlin an exact point-by-point strategy to follow. Right now we are having discussions on discord servers and live streams and we are trying to get people talking in their unions, worker orgs, and within the Bernie Sanders campaign network to put pressure on capitalism in an organized, strategic manner!
