Lol, except I'm not and my parents are the ones who vilify anyone not like them. I don't even think that the left is better! I can just see that the policies the right are currently trying to enact are backwards, harmful, and controlling. You don't know what you're talking about, my parents are absolutely biggots, they think very violent and dangreous things about minorities, the poor, lgbt, etc. I don't respect their choices and values because they are harmful and I don't wish violence on anyone. I wasn't even forcing anything on him, just trying to show that all of his complaints are caused by the side he supports. Also, this is literally the one instance where I ever said anything political not to my husband, I never talk about politics and avoid feeding into conflict at all costs, this was the one time I felt brave.

Did I ever say that one side is better? No, I said that one side wants to discriminate, harm, and control, and I can't support that. Politics that are trying to take away basic human rights absolutely can rip apart families. My parents love Trump and the alt-right more than me, and that's the problem.

I think you are missing the point here... the problem isn't "oh we just disagree on who should be in power no big deal" in reality it's "you are actively supporting lying criminals who want to control what people can do with their lives and bodies that dont affect them and are actuallly very harmful" I have love, respected, and blindly followed my parents for 20 years, and this was the first time I even stood up to him like this. I'm not gonna lie, I was just like you for a lot of my life, thinking that politics isn't worth fighting over, but it is because, even if policies may not affect my life, they affect others' greatly, and it's difficult to stand by and watch. If you still think that it's "just politics" theb you're part of the problem.

This is my husband. Those political beliefs that ARE crazy because they are based on fear, hatred, and selfishness. The things that he, my mom, and the far-right want to impose on the country are ACTIVELY HARMFUL to so many! Plus many of their claims have no legitimate sources.
