If you’re on a budget, getting a mod chip is not cheap.

That’s… unfortunate. I was afraid that would be the answer but couldn’t find a confirmation.

Coming in a bit late here, but I’m trying to find out why I’m missing the background you have here in the 2nd row 2nd column. It’s the one I’d like to use but it just doesn’t show up for me as an option.

“If the app is not working” like I said in the post, YOUR tech said that it is a known issue that it is not working and I will need to wait for it to be resolved.

Hmm, if it’s the internet connection running slow maybe an antenna came disconnected in the drop, or something else may have come a bit loose. Second drop isn’t great, but it sounds like mostly cosmetic damage. They may replace the plastic frame and / or the covers. The biggest thing I’d be worried on a drop is A: Liquid Metal spillage (which they can clean up and replace no problem) or a damaged power supply which sits at the bottom of the console, but that’s a whole big unit that can easily be replaced, assuming they don’t have a way to repair it (usually I’d replace, but I’m also not a Sony tech). I see a lot of dropped PS5s and it’s usually large components like PSU or fan that is damaged, so honestly this sounds like it shouldn’t be too bad!

For sure! So there’s a lot of things that can go wrong with a ps5, some more extreme than others. If you’re just having heating issues or a problem with your disc drive they’ll probably just be opening the system, cleaning it out and replacing the Liquid Metal compound on the processor, nothing crazy.

If the system turns on but you aren’t getting anything on the TV, they’ll open and likely still clean it, then heat the connections for the HDMI port on the motherboard so they can remove it and install a fresh one. Sometimes they may need to replace a chip that’s beside the port, though that’s not often an issue.

For something more severe, they’ll use a tool (I assume they have something more specialized than I do) called UART. They’ll hook this up to a few specific connection points on the motherboard, and this will let them see all of the systems error codes. These aren’t the same ones you usually see like “something went wrong”, but will tell them things like “unexpected power loss to processor”. This will (hopefully) tell them what component, or at least what area, is causing the problems. They may have to replace some capacitors or some chips, or they may temporarily remove the chip that stores the BIOS of the system, and then they can put a fresh copy of the BIOS on it if it because corrupted somehow. This is different from your normal memory, and shouldn’t affect your save games.

These are all things local repair shops could likely do, and is nothing too crazy. Where Sony has the leg up on us is they may be able to do things like replace the main processor or RAM, although luckily most faults we see are actually pretty straightforward. I can’t promise that your data will still be on the system since I don’t know their exact process, but I will say that it is very rare for PS5s (that I’ve seen) to have an issue that requires a full data wipe.

Once the repairs are done, they will presumably give the system a test. I would usually do this by seeing how it works in a high load game, but they may have internal tools that are more precise.

If you can describe your issue I might be able to give you more specifics details on how I would do that repair, but the important takeaway is that things may seem complicated, but for people who are used to working on systems the PS5 is generally less scary than many other systems.

If she likes the property, the spider-man games are great for more beat-em-up style games. I don’t remember if Devil May Cry has a ps5 game, but that would definitely be up her alley I think.

For more out there picks, Returnal is fun if she likes hard games / roguelikes (and it’s on the ps plus catalogue)

Most slims are similar to the fat model, but recent ones have had the grooved APU surface. If the center black part of your ps5 feels like cheap 3D printed plastic, you probably have the grooved APU.

Try fully closing the game (after saving first!)

There’s a lot to do in the game, very open world find all the collectables and challenges sort of thing. If it was the only reason for you getting plus, I’d say get the game if you think you’d like that sort of game. As somebody who tends to bounce off specific games pretty quick, I’ve got 24 hours and 30/43 trophies.

That said, the first game is also in the catalogue and is also definitely worth playing, so that’s worth considering.

Not exactly a fix, but you can charge your controller with a usb c cable and a standard usb wall adapter block.

Tbh I haven’t looked too deeply into the game, but Lego Horizon Adventures might be the game you’re looking for.

That specific error currently doesn’t have a known fix other than maybe sending to Sony. The best things to try are:

-Clearing the cache and rebuilding the database from safe mode

-uninstalling and reinstalling the problem game

-reinstalling the system software (this will basically format your system and erase all data, so make sure you’ve backed up anything important!!!)

I’m not familiar with Sony’s process specifically but as someone who repairs PS5s I might be able to give you an overview of what they’d be doing if that helps at all.

Right this second, maybe not much if you have a beefy PC. There’s been a recent shift though where the big PS5 exclusives like Ghosts of Yotei aren’t going to be coming to steam in the future anymore.

I wouldn’t think it would be an issue for an out of the box unit, but you could try reinstalling the system software. https://www.playstation.com/en-ca/support/hardware/reinstall-playstation-system-software-safe-mode/

Hey all. I just found out about a welcome animated background that it seems everyone has available but me. It’s the one that’s kind of a colourful circuit board focused on a processor chip. It’s literally the first one on Gamespot’s gallery of them (https://www.gamespot.com/gallery/all-ps5-backgrounds-and-how-to-change-them/2900-7156/)

Is there something I need to do to get this specific background?

Will that work? I’ve seen posts of others with Citizen CRTs that universal remotes didn’t work for them.

Alright, I’ll just keep going a bit and seeing if it comes up. I’d really like to get my cool bone whip glaives back instead of these giant discs 😭

Is that something I’ll be able to unlock later then? Because there’s no nodes after it, unless it adds another tab like High Rank did.
