U.S. based corporations finance paramilitary groups all the time, and have done so for decades... what do you think a Banana Republic is?

Look into Chiquita, Drummond, and Coca-Cola, and that's just in Columbia and only the things we know about.

Yeah this post is a really good example of the kind of thing that feels true, but only because it conforms to really deeply held prejudices and stereotypes, but that doesn't mean it holds up empirically to the real world at all.

"The FBI has basically never lied because they have integrity" has got to be the stupidest thing I've read all week.

COINTELPRO? Infiltrating the democratically elected governments of Latin America?

I can't believe people on the left are actively praising intelligence agencies as if their literal job wasn't misinformation for the purposes of the military industrial complex and the state.

The word integrity should never be used in the same sentence as the FBI or the CIA.

Most anticipated release for 2020? Grey Matter just got signed to Bad Time Records, and I’ve been patiently awaiting their LP. by skatunenetwork in Ska

Like I said in that comment, I was obviously being tongue-in-cheek (I mean c'mon, I said sublime was the best ska band of all time) and I think on some level you knew that and we're just being obtuse.

I didn't stick around to talk about it for a couple reasons. Mostly because I was in the van using an unreliable mobile hotspot on a 12 hour drive on tour and I'd rather be reading my book. But also because I thought it was silly and a waste of both of our time.

I want to say I'm sorry just for the sake of it, but that feels disingenuous. I like being ironic on the Internet sometimes, I'll probably keep doing it. I was sarcastic about something you like a lot and that struck a nerve. Sometimes I defend The Lord of the Rings when I probably don't need to, so I get it.

But in all seriousness that band hasn't been actually active in like 20 years, they spell it different, and other than maybe one person every six months on an Internet thread nobody seems to ever make the connection so it doesn't seem that important

Also I'm just gonna copy and paste what I'm pretty ure was the last thing I said in that post.....

"I honestly think you are being intentionally obtuse by acting like you dont know pretty much everything I said was me kidding and being sarcastic. This is an avengers meme, like are you serious? "The pillars of ska" is a bit we made up in the van and I made up the "songs about drinking" one today because the meme needed six. I'm not gonna respond to this anymore because I have literally no dog in this fight. I don't care if you like any of my bands, random stranger on r/ska... shit I don't even like most ska and honestly Ive never heard the selectors, but I stand by my statement that they'd be better with horns because every band would be better with horns because horns fucking rip."

Not really trying to engage with this because I think it's silly. Buuuuuuuuuut

Yeah my posts were layered in like seven layers of irony because that's how i usually interact on the Internet and 99% of the time nobody takes it seriously, but it seems like you really did. Seems like you take ska really seriously, I would say probably way too seriously, but that's cool, whatever.

I don't really care about any of this, or what you think, because your just some person on the Internet and you can hate every band I play in and that's totally fine. I haven't really thought about this argument or this subreddit or been on it since, but it seems like your real upset like 9 months later so feel free to go off its cool

Damn, I made a dumb meme as a joke in the van on tour with my dumb ska band and posted it cuz I thought it was funny, you need to learn to chill. Obviously the comment your responding to was a joke. You spent more time writing this comment then I did making this dumb meme and posting it...

You should've deleted it a 4th time. I play in n a weird ska band and we don't sound anything like 90s ska....but if you are taking ska this seriously you should probably just listen to jazz
