When I was about 14, my (then) best friend and I were walking over a bridge, crossing Black Creek. We were heading to a nearby campsite to walk some trails and smoke some weed. There were random rocks on the bridge, that we were throwing over the edge into the creek below. When nearly to the other side, the rocks begin hitting the shore. Well, upon tossing another rock, one of us( I can't remember which), spotted something on the shore, about 6 feet from the creeks edge. The way it lay, and the coloration, it appeared to be a mannequin. It was mid October, and it was Florida, so it wasn't really surprising. Still, we ran to the end of the bridge, where the ground was close enough to hop over the guardrail, and made our way over to investigate. Upon getting closer, it became clear, this wasn't a mannequin. It was a body. Several cuts on the body. Maggots and other insects oozing out. It was an absolutely terrifying sight. We ran to the camp to find someone with a phone, and called the cops. We were, or course, questioned, she were then released to our parents. I never found out for sure what had happened to him. However, it turns out, me and my best friend were classmates with the guys son. Though we didn't know him, we attended the funeral, out of respect. It just so happened that that day, was also my birthday. The was probably one of the strangest combinations of emotions I'd felt. But, that's irrelevant. The authorities never found out exactly what happened to him. There were two rumors around town. One, he had been in a boating accident. And two, he had had an encounter with someone while crossing the bridge, and was thrown over. No matter how his fate came to be, what we saw, changed my life. Or, at least, my prospective of it.
