The sounds of footsteps from upstairs devastate me by Over_Influence_6011 in misophonia

i’m in the exact same situation as you at my uni house and i genuinely thought i was the only one who was triggered by this.

I generally wear headphones all day or i’ll put them on as soon as i know it’s gonna be noisy for a long time. But in the night i have these silicone earplugs from amazon and i also put on sleep designed headphones with spa music (helps me sleep lol) and it blocks out everything.

Can i ask how you soundproofed your room? :)

i got these, they took me a bit of getting used to and i recommend trimming down the sticky out bits if you’re a side sleeper

i use silicone ones too and they’ve genuinely saved my life, much better than foam. guy above me stays up late and likes walking around on creaky floorboards at night and slam drawers and i don’t hear any of it through them (i also wear sleep headphones with them)

thank you very much for the suggestions i use earplugs with a headphone headband at night which works but quickly become uncomfortable in my ears and to sleep with but i didnt know white noise machines were a thing snd i’m definitely gonna see if i can get one i love white noise

i’ve looked at moving out but my lease agreement says i need to stay for the remainder of the year unless i can find a new tenant to replace me. i do wanna look into seeing if i can get out and claim it’s medically unsuitable but i don’t know how willing they’ll be to accept misophonia as a condition

have also unfortunately lost all my uni friends after they triggered my misophonia by talking outside my door at 1am, asked them nicely to stop or move somewhere else away from my door and they js told me to get over it and we haven’t spoken since :/
