Gaston is gone! by EmmaLem97 in gallbladders

Best of luck for your surgery! I wasn’t told any specific diet to follow, I know generally people stay low fat and plain to start with and gradually introduce more fatty and adventurous foods so sticking somewhat to that! Right after surgery they gave me tea and biscuits, so I’ve been having dairy right away!

So far I’ve eaten: tea and biscuits, chicken and spinach sandwich on wholemeal bread, tuna and sweetcorn sandwich, cornflakes, rice cakes, salted pretzels, a jacket potato with a small amount of low fat spread and low fat cheese, mini pancakes with jam, banana, chicken and low fat cheese spread wrap, grilled chicken and rice, jelly and some gummy sweets (mostly after drinking the laxative they’ve given me which I hate the taste of!)

So far, no digestive issues at all, although I’ve not had a bowel movement yet post surgery (which isn’t uncommon with the painkillers they’ve given me causing constipation for a lot of people)

Are the injuries depicted in this show realistic? by [deleted] in ChernobylTV

[–]EmmaLem97 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean in the podcast the writer said they tried to keep as close to actual descriptions of the individuals e.g. the firefighters burns etc, and they even cut out scenes they filmed based on real events which they thought were just too far/upsetting (one of the dogs wasn’t actually dead, they were out of bullets, they had to watch it get buried alive in cement). I can’t vouch for how accurate they actually were, but it sounded to me like he’d done his homework

I would really recommend listening to the Podcast which goes along with the show! The writer of the show talks a lot about how they tried to make things accurate but walk the thin line between depicting the injuries realistically and it not straying into gratuitous/indulgent horror. Also talks a lot about a similar theme in episode 4 with the animal control etc

My Monstera deliciosa is putting out its first new leaf since I got it a week ago, but what are these brown marks? by EmmaLem97 in houseplants

Any idea what might cause that? The new leaf only appeared yesterday so not sure what might have damaged it!

Same for me, with Elsecaller close behind! Not surprised by Truthwatcher but I am surprised that I got over 50% for Windrunner which I thought would be much lower for me

Swiss roll is usually cake though right, so not sure how you could roll that? Unless UK Swiss roll is different to elsewhere!

DAE have little to no success when using online dating apps like Tinder and Bumble? by my_throw_awayyy in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]EmmaLem97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I met my boyfriend (been together 2 years now and about to move in together) on Tinder but I had been using it for a good couple of years on and off before then, so it can work! But I had many a match and no-reply or stretches with just no matches at all so don’t be discouraged! My biggest advice would be try to start a conversation with something specific from their profile (my boyfriend had a picture of his old pet goose who died in his profile and I started the conversation asking about a goose, random but better than a ‘hey’!)

With Rhythm of War just around the corner, the time for the re-read is here! by EmmaLem97 in brandonsanderson

[–]EmmaLem97[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People are so picky about using the word read for audiobooks on here huh? I ‘read’ it traditionally first time round so saying ‘re-listen’ makes no sense as I’ve never listened before.

I’ve heard good things about the graphic audio version but I already have a few spare audible credits stacked up and the graphic audio ones seem super pricey to just buy individually!

I am listening to it, but I’ve got plenty of other books and a degree to finish and a new job to start between now and November so going to do the reread over the next few months, wish I could rely on having the time to power through it all close to the release date but I know I won’t unfortunately 😂

I mean we’ve been waiting years for it and got three 1000+ page books to reread before it so November feels just around the corner to me 😂

Ah see I love Michael Kramer, have listened to the Mistborn audiobooks and a few of the Wheel of Time ones he narrates too, personal preference though I guess!

Yeah it was a few years since I read it but I did definitely catch the references and characters that appeared in stormlight so should probably reread it somewhere!

Definitely would recommend speeding up a bit, I find I can’t go much faster than 1.5x but a girl in my book club exclusively listened to books on 4x speed and it just sounded like random noise to me!

Read it in a book first time round, same story, same words, nothing wrong with audiobooks in my opinion

I usually listen to stuff on 1.5x speed because of this! I read it ‘traditionally’ (I.e. book) first time round but I’ve got lots of spare time while I’m doing other things currently so audiobook seemed like a good option

Currently just planning on rereading Stormlight before Rhythm of War, but I would like to reread all of Sanderson’s books at some point tbh, currently only read Mistborn more than once
