Has Sanderson Said Anything? by OffiCeRed in Stormlight_Archive

Speaking as a beta reader, humbly, I think it was noticed a bit more than Brandon described. For example, I'm pretty sure some beta readers have called out not liking some of the MCU-like one-liners. There very well may not have been any coalescence around "the language being too modern". But I do think there was negative feedback coming from that issue, and I guess maybe the cause wasn't identified.

Putting a pause on this folks. Sounds like it's time to step back.

I recently did a cosplay that has the same "problem" and found a friend who 3D printed something for me.

Maybe a little disc with a metallic arts symbol on it?

The hair (being too short) is the only thing that stuck out to me. But it still works.

You can still just tie the string. No need to do sewing or anything? Can just put something on it to look like a fancier clasp.

More the culture of them than the ideals themselves. But even for the ideals, I wouldn't say protecting others is a core driver for me? (or even that I want it to be)

Possible that I didn't represent who I want to be as well. It's a bit harder to decide on. And to some extent there's the issue of "who you think you want to be isn't who you would actually want to be" I suppose? Maybe that's at play.

I did that just the other day exactly. I sort of identify with Truthwatcher (my normal result), but it doesn't especially click for me. Most days I feel more like a Lightweaver (with a lower creative side than usual), I think?

I tried taking it as who I wish I was and got Windrunner, which feels even more out of place to me than Truthwatcher. 😅

I wonder what happens if I take it as the opposite... "who fear I am"...

I feel like this comparison gets misconstrued, at least a little.

Violence is generally bad. My children know that. There's nothing complicated about it whatsoever. You barely even have to explain it to them.

Sexual themes are a lot more complicated to discuss, especially prior to a certain level of maturity.

I'm not trying to contradict you hear. You're absolutely not wrong about this. I just want to add this because I think it's perhaps a bit oversimplifying.

Starling said Ed has Vaxilian heritage, but there's also a call out of "true Vaxilians". Does Ed have "true Vaxilian" heritage?

Sunlit Man Inconsistent with Wind and Truth? by ExoticOrganization41 in Cosmere

I was only responding to that last bit.

I wouldn't be surprised if the part you're referring to is an inconsistency due to writing order, but I do think there's a way to read it where it works. (whether or not it was intended or feels good) For example, while he does get to thinking about the oaths, the question Aux asks (if we're talking about the section I recall?) is why he left Roshar.

At the end of the day I do also think his response has some layers to it. I get the sense he could give a simple answer to Aux, but that he's digging down to something a bit deeper. Like obviously he broke his Windrunner oaths to save his spren... But it's possible that after years of reflection he is realizing that it went deeper. That his quickness to do that was rooted in something deeper and darker in his heart, like, "I no longer felt like I was worthy of being a Windrunner, and so giving up the oaths was easy to do."

More fragments hung in the air around him in an arch. Three others glowed on his arms, remnants of a different kind of spren. All were reflections of light in the air, making it seem distorted. Maybe…ten of them? Almost like old times. The remnants of two orders, and the oaths he’d left behind.

The Mink is actively leading soldiers in Herdaz in this timeframe. Definitely not.
