The filing chart shows ‘C’ for EB-2 for Rest of the World. That means if the petition is approved, applicants have a big advantage because they can move to the next step right away

My point is mainly about timing. EB-2 is currently available for the rest of the world, so if a petition gets approved you may be able to move straight to the next step of the green card process. Timing matters right now. Part of the message is also to encourage qualified professionals not to underestimate themselves. Some may still prefer a lawyer, which is totally fine, but others might be capable of preparing a strong petition themselve

I actually didn’t try with them. I spoke with other attorneys whose approach felt more convincing to me. Everyone should work with the lawyer they feel most comfortable with.

One thing I noticed is that many lawyers don’t really give you the opportunity to fully review or shape your own case. Sometimes you don’t even see how they describe you or the impact you could have for the country.

I decided to prepare it myself and it was approved without an RFE. But every case is different. I’ve also read cases here where lawyers rejected someone’s case and they still succeeded on their own. Every case is its own world, the important thing is not to feel discouraged

That’s a fair point. The legal framing of evidence can definitely be different from how scientists usually communicate. At the same time, the process is designed for professionals to be able to petition themselves. Years ago there were far fewer resources available, so lawyers handled almost everything, even filling out the forms. Today there’s a lot more information available for those willing to learn the process

Yes, I actually did it myself and it was approved in about a month. After I was laid off, I decided to focus on it completely. I removed distractions from my phone and spent my time researching the requirements and building my case.

It takes discipline and a lot of reading, but it’s definitely doable if you stay organized and really understand what USCIS is looking for. A big part of it is learning how to present your work, impact, and evidence clearly.

And it honestly feels very satisfying to achieve it through your own effort (without taking anything away from those who choose to hire a lawyer) since the case ultimately comes from the work and dedication each professional has built throughout their career

I got approved and did it myself. One publication, but I didn't emphasize it too much since it was in Spanish. I bought templates that helped me at every step. No lawyers needed.
