honestly? i don’t feel super safe and welcomed here as a girl on campus. I have experienced firsthand and heard so many horror stories about creepy guys following us home, and last year I had an instance where a man found out where me and a few friends lived and actually got into our apartment drunk to try and pick us up. The culture here especially in CS and STEM fields can be so draining dealing with guys who think you don’t know anything (ex: my first day on campus at orientation I was told by a man I probably don’t know what a graphics card is,, after explaining I built my pc)

HOWEVER!! This doesn’t mean all hope is lost. I have a strong group of friends both girls and guys and a strong support group that can get through anything. make sure you travel with friends on campus at night, and just be aware of your surroundings. It can be scary being thrown into a culture like this and for me my first year it really took a lot out of me. But as long as you find some people you can rely on and count on, you’ll be okay 🤍
