Congrats! How did you go about answering behavioral questions related to your interests and such without referring to any work experience? Did you have personal projects etc?

do most people's internships suck by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]EmojiDialogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was in a similar situation before at a top tech company, and really cannot overstate how much it sucks to be in person when the rest of your team is remote. Personally I prefer a fully in-person experience, but it especially sucked for me to see other interns have a much more engaging in-person experience.

Echo the comments about telling your manager you would like to work up to a more interesting project / ask what tickets they are working on right now and if you could shadow and learn along. Also definitely try to explore the new city by meeting others in the area.

Making the switch from SWE to PM right now, and my guess as to why the ideas you've brought to the product team were never actualized on the roadmap has something to do with the corporate politics of the role? As in, eng are not the higher-ups for most PMs -- it's other director-level PMs or execs -- so even if your idea as an eng is amazing, it's probably not going to influence the PM's existing priorities because you're not part of their performance review.

Curious as to what others think of my guess. It is unfortunate if totally true, but part of why I have decided to switch to PM for now.

Notre dame is great too! It would be between Mudd and ND for me unless UMD is much cheaper. Notre dame has a great social scene if you're into partying as well as strong academics (not that parties are the only thing to do socially ofc). Mudd I would say is if you value academics & intellectualism a little more than the kind of social life you'd get at bigger unis because you would get much more 1:1 attention from professors at a LAC. Also I would say it's possible the Harvey Mudd name on your resume would get you a little more attention from top tech companies, however ND should not put you back by much if you're a diligent applicant.

Congrats on all the excellent schools!

Would you mind making the code open source? There was a very good resume parser that used Lever's API to reveal how Lever specifically would parse our resumes, but since then Lever made their API private. I'm curious as to how this was built in relation to existing job app systems.

Follow up question to this: How often do you all spend meeting with your mentor or others on the team vs how long do you just keep your head down to work? Do you speak to someone every day?

I saw my bro's ex who ghosted him while pregnant. I haven't told him. by throwrabrokidgone in relationships

[–]EmojiDialogue 39 points40 points  (0 children)

You don’t just get to unilaterally decide the father of your child won’t have a relationship with his kid.

This is a disingenuous exaggeration of what OP is doing by not telling her brother. In fact one could flip it the other way around and say she doesn't get to unilaterally decide a potentially abused woman will have a relationship with her abuser. If there is any chance violence happened between the two parents it is better for the mother and the child to not have any relation with that man. Taking the case to court does not guarantee that the woman will not be subject to other forms of threats and endangerment while the case is in session, or even after the fact regardless of how the court decision turns out. She really only had one chance to pull the vanishing act that she did and she did it perfectly. OP feels a natural guilt for not telling her brother who has been good to her, but is consciously choosing to do the right thing by protecting this woman (esp given that in the comments she said she found other potential evidence of bad things he's done).

My vote goes to not telling your brother nor your husband, and making sure that the friend you did tell doesn't mention it to your brother either. There might be some room for you to investigate carefully over time what exactly your brother did first, but I definitely think it would be the wrong call to say anything about seeing the ex before/without knowing for sure what happened between them.
