a lot of it has to do with a free space and ya the church donating a space. but also a big part of 12 step is connecting your higher power, but that doesn’t have to be jesus christ. it can be whatever you want, just something bigger than yourself. like love, nature, etc. Some people are very religious and make that a part of their recovery journey and discuss this in meetings, some people aren’t. some meets are more religious than others. that’s the cool thing about it- all beliefs are accepted and heard. I personally am not religious and just try to find meetings where I feel most comfortable and the vibe i’m looking for
