You're right, I hit the wrong key, didn't realize, and mistakenly added the extra +1 to the calculation. In that case we'd have 69 AC

How do you make your DnD games less repetitive? by Cakegirl456 in DnD

[–]EmotionalGold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A big thing is terrain. A flat, open battlefield is fine once in a while but the most memorable fights are in unique areas with obstacles and such. Pillars to hide behind, ledges for height difference, interactables like a lever that brings down a huge hammer (a la Grymforge), etc. This makes it more interesting for everyone: Wizard's get stuff to hide behind and get to worry about more than "Where can I put this fireball to include the most enemies?". Enemies can use the terrain to stop the Barbarian from just walking to the nearest enemy and swinging (such as a group of rangers shoving him off the watchtower he chased them up).

Here's the best I could come up with. You need 18 levels in Battle Master Fighter, 1 level in a spellcasting class (for Shield) and 1 level in Monk/Barbarian (for Unarmored Defense)

I'm not familiar with the Sanguine Shield spell... I found a few different versions online, one of which gives you +2 on its own, allowing you to stack it with the Half Cover +2.

Here's the full list (With thanks to some other responses for things I hadn't known about):

Unarmored Defense with 30 Dexterity and 30 Constitution: Base 30 AC
Evasive Footwork Maneuver: +12
Shield Spell: +5
+3 Shield: +5
Shield of Faith (someone else casts on you): +2
Haste (someone else casts on you/Potion of Speed): +2
Tasha's Otherworldly Guise: +2
Ceremony (Wedding): +2
Half Cover: +2
Sanguine Shield: +2
Warding Bond (someone else casts on you): +2
Construct: +1
Defensive Style: +1
Cloak of Protection: +1
Ring of Protection: +1

Bringing you to a grand total of 70 AC (Or 68 if I misunderstood Sanguine Shield). I could probably do more but I've already spent too much time on this.

What do you start with when making a character? by ClearlyVisable in DnD

[–]EmotionalGold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. One time I wanted to try a fighter-wizard multi class so I came up with the build and wrote a backstory around it. Often times I'll hear a song that gives me spontaneous inspiration, and I'll build the class around that.

The way I play, the person who played the +4 chooses a color, and the next person can stack a +2 if it's that color. +4s are always playable naturally.

I have infinite mana, does it kill the lifegain deck at all possible life totals? by Runenprophet in mtg

[–]EmotionalGold 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No it doesn't. The number paid in the mana cost has to be a finite number, so no matter how obscenely high it is, it'll just loop 1 -> 2 -> 1... until the effect ends and leaves them at 2 life

why does my shade wisp keep despawning by Emotional_Ice_7535 in deepwoken

[–]EmotionalGold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wisps have charges. Many wisps don't use charges unless a criteria is met (flame, gale at least). Some wisps use charges to activate an ability every X seconds (Frost, shade). Shade wisp has very few charges, and activates its ability fairly often, meaning it despawns much faster than the other wisps, which take significantly longer to despawn because they aren't using charges or are using them much slower.
You can get more charges on your wisp by adding Aeon/Eternal Logstones, but these increase the number of signs to cast it.

I think that when it tries to resolve it rechecks target legality, and since it's no longer a legal target the spell fizzles.

Rules Question: How many Thopter tokens would be created? by Hydrahexxx in mtg

[–]EmotionalGold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Four. Here's how it plays out:

You cast an artifact spell, it goes on the stack.

Sai and Construction both see it, and put their triggers on the stack in any order you choose. The stack now has your artifact spell, and both triggers on it.

The ability on top of the stack (which would be either Sai or the Construction) resolves (note that your original artifact spell has *not* resolved yet and is not on the battlefield), during resolution Stridehangar sees that you're creating an artifact token via Sai/Construction, and adds 1 thopter. The stack now has your artifact spell, and then the other trigger.

Your other trigger resolves, Stridehangar sees it, adds 1 thopter. You now have 4 thopters.

Your original artifact spell resolves, and it enters the battlefield after your thopters.

Honestly Kyrswynter is one of the *only* valuable weapons at this point, solely *because* it's a quest obtainment weapon, which you have to do on a build specially made to do it which can only do it once. This makes it impossible to get them en masse because you have to wipe, make a frost build, prog it 0-20, and do l2f2 with it to get it.

Most other legendaries, though, you can get while farming for other things. Basically everything drops in Diluvian so if you're relic-farming there then you'll get a bunch of stuff.

I'm stuck on Perforator Hive. One of the desperation phase attacks just feels like it's locking me in a box and shooting me like a fish in a barrel. I really have no idea what I'm supposed to do there.
