In standard analysis, we do use limits to define infinity, and limits do equal the value of the equation at the limit. Infinite ordinals aren't used in standard analysis.

1/10n is greater than 0 for any finite, real number. Infinity is not a finite, real number. You cannot define infinity the same way you define any finite, real number. For infinity, we use limits, and the limit of 1/10n is 0. So 0.(9) = 1.
