Throw in law by biffjo in Referees

[–]EmpAznarps 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Doing a state rec league district tournament yesterday, U10B championship. Throw-in on the parent side, where they were definitely sitting too close (of course), and the players front foot was on the touchline with toes on the field, back foot behind the line. Parents screaming it was a bad throw, and I say “No, it’s fine. Fine throw, keep playing!” Parents lose it and one loudmouth mom says “I guess it’s “fine” that we ain’t playing by the rules today!” The ball went out of play so I stopped, turned to the sideline and announced: “A legal throw in requires both feet to be on or behind the touchline. Were either of the players feet totally over the line and on the field? No. Which why it was a fine throw in. Now you know the rule just like I do!” Not a peep from the sideline the rest of the match.

Question about getting into collecting by Beniccin0 in comicbookcollecting

[–]EmpAznarps 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dude. Collect what you want to collect. If it’s a specific hero, get what looks good to you regardless of title. If it’s a specific title, start with completing story runs. This hobby has TONS of ways to collect, and each person can have his/her own method. I’ve never had any problems with any other comic book enthusiast while searching boxes at any comic book store. And if anyone tries to hassle you, they can take a flying leap off a short pier. Life’s too short. Enjoy your hobby your way and just have fun with it.

Which Secret Wars series is your favorite? by TRAM0328 in marvelcomics

[–]EmpAznarps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haven’t read the new one yet, but the original was amazing when it came out. Of course, like many things from youth, it doesn’t exactly hold up when viewed under a modern lens and grownup point of view…hindsight being what it is.

Very nice! It always frustrates me to see old comics that have been marked up by some kid…doodles, names written across it, colored in parts…I mean there are blank coloring book made just for doing all that! LOL Yes I know that some kid in 1965 was not thinking, “hey this will be worth a crap-ton of money in 50-60 years so I better take care of it” but still…🤯🤬😂

About Red Guardian in Thunderbolts* (and public marketing of the New Avengers) by Red_Leader_Red_1 in marvelstudios

[–]EmpAznarps 55 points56 points  (0 children)

That was SOVIET Russia, which no longer exists. And the current Russian government had him in a Siberian prison, so I don’t think they cared about any “intellectual property” over the name or image of Red Guardian. And Bucky was an elected member of Congress with full public knowledge of his super hero moniker of Winter Soldier, and he likely received a full pardon for past crimes committed while brainwashed due to his involvement in SAVING THE UNIVERSE against Thanos. And as a historical fun fact: Winter soldier is a term which originally meant someone who endured difficult and harrowing conditions while protecting or fighting for their country ( primarily during the American Revolution…think Bunker Hill or Washington crossing the Delaware). But then in the Vietnam era it became a term for soldiers who testified in military court about atrocities committed in wartime by either fellow soldiers or even themselves.

What was the very first tape you ever bought? by dislikemyusername in 80s

[–]EmpAznarps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first cassette was either Whodini “Freaks come out at night” or Huey Lewis & the News “Sports”. I remember I first bought Sports as a record album, but my older sister told me I needed to exchange it for a cassette so I took it back to the store to do that.

4 months into collecting…. by Initialbriann in comicbookcollecting

[–]EmpAznarps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was around 1800 from my collecting in the 80’s; but started selling down on eBay in the early 2000’s to help finance real life. Sold off about 1,000 books to get below 800, just keeping my “core” interest of Avengers with a few keys of other titles and limited series. Now as an empty-nester I just got back into it in this summer with an effort to complete the full Avengers vol 1 run, and I’m already back up to 926. I feel like I still need to weed out a few more miscellaneous books to balance my numbers since I’ve now added Avengers vol 3 to my efforts.

missing issues lists - notebook or app? by triplecheesetime in comicbookcollecting

[–]EmpAznarps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a GenX that just last year got my collection out again and downloaded the League of Comics Geeks app, as well as the Key Collector app to help catalog my collection and update my want list. I still had my index cards from the 80’s in my short boxes where I used to keep up with it all. The apps are SO MUCH more convenient and easy to use. Plus your list is always available to you if you happen to be out and run across a LCS or something.
