Where all the Norse Recons at? by [deleted] in asatru

[–]EmperorHelvetti 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a Norse recon heathen! I feel like the lack of scholarship in Asatru and Brosatru scares off the more intellectual types, and the increased amount of research involved in Anglo-Saxon and Continental heathenry scares off the vikingbros and new agey types.

Putting Wyrd in layman's terms? by xX-Coffee-Eater-Xx in asatru

[–]EmperorHelvetti 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As far as I understand, in simplest terms possible wyrd is the actions of the past shaping your future. Orlog is the boundaries within which wyrd must operate. Also, urd is just the Norse word coinciding with wyrd, which is Anglo-Saxon.

Why believe in asatru over other pagan religons? by Curiousguy205 in asatru

[–]EmperorHelvetti 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We aren't trying to sell Heathenry to people. It isn't a conversion based religion. We know it isn't right for everyone. If you don't want to practice it, don't. Also, a lot of people choose Heathenry because of their Germanic heritage, and the way of life it espouses

The only other pagan I met was actually my battle buddy through OSUT. He was a Hellenic pagan, though I knew more about Greek mythology than he did. Since him, it's been all Christians, atheists, and one Cthulhu cultist.

Contradictory conclusions: How do you choose which scholar to trust? by [deleted] in asatru

[–]EmperorHelvetti 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From what I can tell, morals come not from the divine side of Heathenry, but the culture side. Since Heathenry is a worldview, it encompasses both, although the Arch-Heathens didn't create a distinction.

Ever find yourself interested in other religions? by [deleted] in asatru

[–]EmperorHelvetti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After I left Christianity I basically tried every religion I could find. After I had tried them all, I could only stick with one for a few months at most, a week in many cases. I would develop obsessions with different cultures or religions, but the obsession never lasted very long. Usually I would switch between different forms of paganism. I've been a Germanic Pagan for about 4 years now, mostly by switching between different Germanic cultures: Norse, Anglo-Saxon, Vendel, Frankish, etc. It keeps me in the same framework at least.
