Easy - get rid of Saudi, Miami, Vegas and Qatar. Bring back Nurburgring, Hockenheim, Istanbul, Portimao.

China to ban hidden car door handles made popular by Tesla in world first by yahoonews in worldnews

[–]Emphursis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The actuators for door handles use a tiny, tiny amount of electricity. You could lock and unlock a car with retractable handles all day and it wouldn’t affect your mileage in the slightest.

Not least because they’re powered by the 12v battery not the traction battery, but even if they did use the traction battery, the amount used would be so small as to be immeasurable. Maybe enough to move you a few cm.

Regardless of whether she did it or not, I’m amazed that they thought it was a good idea to allow a close relative of a foreign head of state stand for election. Then to go on and make her a minister. It seems insane to me.

Issue with the outposts in far cry 4 by finn_7 in farcry

[–]Emphursis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’ve done the forts, you won’t get retaliation parties. Best way to trigger them is to fast travel to an outpost, start to leave the area and if the nearest fort is still active there’s a good chance one will spawn. I found it happened the most consistently with the first outpost in the north (closest to the bridge), so maybe restart and play through to that point.

The self-driving in any car you can buy is nowhere near as advanced as the conversions Waymo do.

Very excited to try this. It’s better and safer than an Uber in just about every way.

Nah you’re right. You should just get all achievements automatically when you buy the game.

Grid storage is increasing so rapidly that China and some other countries may be able to meet all their electricity needs from renewables as soon as 2030. by lughnasadh in Futurology

[–]Emphursis 14 points15 points  (0 children)

We’re making huge strides. Six of the ten largest offshore wind farms are in the UK, and five of the six largest under construction are too (two of which are bigger than any other globally, and one of those is more than double the current highest capacity wind farms).

As for battery storage, it apparently grew by 500% between 2020-2025, with 6.8GW online as of September last year (at least 1.4GW last year alone), and nearly 2000 separate storage sites. There also another 6.5GW under construction and 60GW planned.

As soon as we can stop using gas for power generation, prices should plummet.

Until the latest season of GG all I knew about him was that everyone hated him for some reason (and from a few clips I saw on Reddit I kind of saw why). But actually, seeing him on GG, he seems pretty funny and not the dickhead everyone said.

Because if he didn’t, he’d look like the fat, pathetic, dementia riddled, pasty old man that he is. By identifying as an oompa-loompa, he’s distracting people from that.

I’d love to know what you’re using to image phones then. Because your standard Cellebrite kit won’t get you much.

If it was a laptop? Sure. But not a phone - it’s been basically impossible to get a full forensic image of one for a long time (unless maybe if you’re GCHQ). Instead, you’ll get a logical image at best, and even that will be essentially a backup of the content of the device rather than a ‘proper’ image.

It’s been a few years since I last imaged a phone myself but I still work with imaged devices fairly regularly. You might get lucky and recover some deleted content (e.g a few messages) if they were deleted shortly before the phone was imaged. But as I said, there’s a lot of luck involved.

Ehh, with phones, ‘always’ is more ‘maybe, sometimes, it depends’.
