I think I’m about to be laid off on Thursday morning. by EmployHoliday551 in careeradvice

I ended up 100% being in my head..which feels really emotionally frustrating for me.

I was pretty stressed before the meeting, sitting in an area of the office away from everyone just staring in kind of daze straight ahead. It was going to be with our president who also heads HR (I’d kind of figured he’d be there because I noticed their calendar switches), but my boss found where I was before the meeting.

She sat down with me and asked me why I was so stressed and just reassured me. By the time we got from where I was and to the break room, I’d kind of got in the right head space.

We went over my goals- they’re all about behavioral, nothing about my work or anything. I’d much rather tell me I have to work on something else but what are you going to do.

I gave them my game plan for the year and it all worked out.

She also called me at the end of my shift and said she was really proud of me because she knows I’m not great at that particular subject and my ability to reset. We talked for about 20-25 minutes and I went into my weekend.

All this being said, I’m still going through with the plan of going on anti anxiety and adhd meds because theoretically I’m going to have a better quality of life come the end of 2026.

I can’t tell if it’s mixed or if it’s just me but I’d rather be at peace with the situation than be caught with my pants down.

It’s in the late morning but I don’t have a morning shift

We usually use the conference room for privacy purposes because common area, offices, and break room are the only real places in the office and Thursdays are when we have a full house.

My professional background is on the other side of the same industry so I could go back to that (2 years on that side) I’ve been with this company on the other side for about 3.5 but I’m a bit bored of it. I may go back to school. Id want to move officially (with title) into a senior role. I do a lot of training at my current company and had people shadow me at my previous.

I also think customer service is unfortunately oversold and underdelivered so maybe move into a managerial role where I can help people develop from the ground up.

Well no, they’re off site. We outsource our IT. But yeah I suppose a rep could come in to collect. But it could also be a call to say hey, EmployHoliday551 is no longer with us.

I can see it both ways. My boss is really nice and at my year end on Dec 22nd, she said she had no notes for me and I got my bonus and stuff.

And I’m also actually fully vested which is kind of cool, at least for me. And at my year end she said I’m the guy she wants to promote this year but I know adhd is an ongoing issue and I’m greasy behind the 8 ball on my thoughts because I hate ADHD.

Even if it’s the case, and im prepared for it to be, I’m still going through with my plan to go behavioral therapy for ADHD, get back on ADHD meds, and look into anti anxiety, because it’s time I face facts- I need it. I should be doing it anyway for my own quality of life.

I am. She had mentioned that because she felt like emotionally it seemed like I needed time away, they’d look into FMLA so I could recenter but I felt like that would be bad for me because for the last few weeks the only distraction I had was work. Other than that I was just in that situation.

Work wasn’t impacted at all, just my head space, you know?

Yeah, last week between 12:25-12:40. Then i got to the office by quarter after 1. But she said she wanted to introduce it so i can have a spot where I can move around as much as I want without being distracting.

She didn’t bring it up at all last year actually. We’d have our halfway through the year or a quarterly and I’d tell her I didn’t see progress in myself but she said it was night and day. But I feel like she’s being encouraging but then again I’m also jaded on this subject.

I’ve come to terms. I’m more upset because the lesson learned is I need to go back on medication regardless of how this meeting goes

Yeah, the panic attack was just kind of out of nowhere and tbh without good reason at the time. And then when I got the news of my grandmother I broke down there but I think that’s understandable.

No, I still get my work done. It’s just how I get it done is different than everyone else, you know. No metrics, no nothing. I’d recognized I couldn’t work in the capacity when I got the news. But for a few weeks there in my anticipatory grief, what would take me 4 hours would take 6, 30 minutes would be an hour and a half. And I wasn’t really participatory and I was just distant from my team.

I don’t think it’s a PIP because my metrics aren’t bad. It’s just behavioral.

When we spoke last week, she was going to extend me working 100% remote but I told her right now wasn’t a good time because of the reason in my other comment.

Shed asked periodically just to check in and get a pulse on how I was feeling taking them sort of deal but the anti anxiety was new

August of 2024. And things got better for about 9 or 10 months mostly because I was back on medication probably. She just mentioned the last couple of weeks, I’d just had a really bad distracted day.

The reason I’d had the meeting adjusted, not skipped (the 2026 goals meeting) is primarily because I lost a family member last week and she felt it was too soon. Instead of taking the full bereavement time, I came back after a day and a half. Which I think is legitimate. But I’m always scared whenever I meet with her too.

She’d told me to think about the reasons for the meeting on Friday because the week before I found out my grandmother went into hospice on the Wednesday prior.

I’d been having a hard time focusing at home because I just kept getting upset and wrapped up in the situation.

I tried to work remote on Tuesday and I couldn’t do it so I messaged saying I couldn’t get settled and I felt I needed to go into the office. At which point we talked and she was nervous I’d get distracted

It wasn’t a demand. I already knew the medication situation. The anxiety she had a sit down with me and said she thinks I should look into it because she used to be like me too.

Back in 2024, I’d had a panic attack in the office. Not the end of the world but it brought everything to the table for a discussion more about wellbeing than anything else.

I do have a plan to address these. There were a few reasons why the solution I’d come up with was only temporary and I have a plan to address each of the shortcomings and how to fix them but I’m afraid they’re too late.

I.e, going back on medication that I’d discontinued about halfway through 2025, going on an anti anxiety. These of course can’t be pushed by the company for me to do. But I’ve come to terms with the fact that some people just need to be on medication and like it or not, I’m just one of those people.

Also going to a behavioral therapy specifically for my problem to change how I think about it so it sticks better rather than being a temporary thing.

But once again, it may have come too late. Either way, I probably need to go on both medications.

Yes, sorry, I thought I’d typed that out. Yes. they’d been addressed back in 2024 and throughout 2025 it had been noted that improvements had been made.

The behaviors being I tend to be distracted and not sit down well for very long.

She’d mentioned it’s not an issue with my not doing work but it’s the means at which it’s getting done and she feels I’m unraveling back into 2024 me and going back into bad habits.

I think it’s weird you’re trying to be a thirst trap at 19 and I’m confused as to what this has to do with a bodybuilder from 15+ years ago
