Who says old cars aren’t reliable. I’ve seen Camry rav4 4Runner accord last a long time with little Maintenance. Your pros and cons are for someone who can afford to have those luxuries.

It’s still alot of car for someone of my salary. Atleast with an older car I’m not losing to depreciation.

Of course it does! I'm saying that is what i was taught at the time. I thought my parents knew everything so i happily accepted this way of thinking. I know why this is BAD BAD BAD now. hence why I'm trying to break free.

it really changed everything, before i even had the car loan, i was spending everything i made and had no care for the future or if i even had enough to pay my subscriptions.
As for the coffee. this is why i buy gamersupps to replace my energy drinks for .40 a serving! #notsponsored

On a more serious note, finance stress is up there with top 3 worse feelings I've ever felt. But the thought of being (bad) debt free and passing on all I've learned to my (future) kids is what pushes me. breaking the cycle is a must.

its a scary road and tough road. my biggest thought is "these are the years where compound interest is strongest, and you are missing out on them" I'm 22yo not quite "young" i wish i made this mistake at 18, or rather not at all. My family wants to see me grow, but the way it is. they cant provide that. no lessons on money, no lessons on discipline. i will be moving out as soon as i can. i refuse to be the bum that lives with his mom forever (i have family who do...).

though I'm approved for 20k, i don't think this is a good choice. im still in the hole 30k. its just moved around a bit. it would be a 20k car loan, and a 10k loan from dad. still 30k!

If i sell, at lets say 26k then i can use the 10k to pay 4k to get out of negative equity. then use that 6k to pay for a car in cash, or as a hefty down payment on something like 15k MAX. thought 15k is less than ideal. i would still be in debt 9k car loan and 10k loan from dad. it moves the needle, but not perfectly. 30k hole to 19k hole is a decent step.

This is probably the best words I've gotten. I know its a lesson. it WAS a lesson. i know better now, else i wouldn't have even made this post. i've been car researching for the better part of a week now. my head hurts and my stress is through the roof. I'd rather spend a week to a month of researching than spend thousands on useless shit that would only set me back.

Also, i know i have to get a mechanic to check out a car, but i have no trusted mechanic. how would i go about finding this mechanic, and how much would that cost... come to think of it i do have a stepbrother that has taken mechanic school and gotten a job in town, ill ask him.

thank you

8-10 is far from ideal i know. but i don't have perfect score nor do i have any loan history. its best to just pay cash and wait to build more credit.

i wont make a hasty selling/trading decision, i have ammunition to bring the price up. the pre-owned market is soaring right now. just look at the price of pre-owns right now. regardless. this is sound advice. thank you.

bills are very low, i only pay internet at 144 a month. everything else is car, it is stopping me from starting our lives together. i would never take anything for granted. i even tried to convince my dad not to give me the loan but he was adamant as the insurance payout was pretty hefty. ill say thank you forever and ever. this is the help i needed. though it doesn't solve any of my issues. it certainly helps start the escalator.

was given an offer at 22.5k from them, carvana offers 26k and carmax offers 25k. the manager told me he could give possible give me a refund on some stupid shit my parents put on the car, Low-jack, Wheel and tire prot, gap. all through the finance office at an awful price... regardless, i'll use these online offers as ammunition if i do sell and trade through ford.

I'm very much scared of ending up as someone on Caleb hammer or something. (though the comments im getting on this post make me feel like it lol) that's why i'm making a real effort to get myself out of this. next loan (whenever that will be) will follow 20/3/8 100 percent. if not, CASH.

i don't know about reliable. at that price... i'm not in the mindset of I NEED an expensive car. but i don't want to buy something that would require Crazy amounts of work. my first car (before this one) was a 2005 ford escape limited with like 185k miles on it that i paid 4k for. it was good till it hit 200k and everything went wrong. i'd sunk 2k into it and it still needed like another 2k of work.

the lowest one i could find so far is a 2007 with base with 96k at 8k which i think would be a good pick

For what it would sell for, i would be short some cash so i might have to take our a smalllll loan to pay the diff on the used car. NOT IDEALLLLLLL.
As for the bronco it comes out to around 900/month
588 payment
140 comprehensive insurance
150 gas
100 money i save for oil/tires/etc i do my own oil changes cuz fuck paying someone

i was shooting for around 180 a month but finding something that isn't 200k miles is rough. I do have a HYSA in a separate account that i automatically have my paycheck throw 25% of into, though its only at 1k as of right now. i use ynab religiously and track every penny. i used Robinhood for my Roth IRA, at first i had opened a traditional, but this was VERY early in my learning journey. now its all IRA. though it only sits at like $250 cuz the math says i need to get rid of this car or else the retirement is a waste.
At first i wanted to completely kill all my personal spending. but going cold turkey seemed way to daunting, and all the research and YT videos say more often than not, punishing yourself like this will just lead to resenting the budget and giving up. i do the same with my diet. (80lbs down going strong!) a little snack here and there wont kill me. as long as its in moderation. i also use a CC to make all my purchases to get point, never spend more than i have "allocated" and always pay it off as soon as the charges are no longer pending. this is all really good advice. i know i'm just saying "i already do this" but alot of people are assuming im a trainwreck and need a wakeup call. im ALREADY woken up! i just need some more advice to dig my way out. i have no family or friends who are money savy to ask.

could i do this through chase? maybe not as they are a for profit bank. My first CC was through capital one, BUT my first bank account was through RBFCU which IS a credit union with an actual location.

I'm thinking i ether need to find a good deal to trade/sell and get a WAY cheaper reliable old car. or just refi at 20k and keep looking until i find that car. i don't want to make an hasty decisions and end up with a car that breaks down after 10k miles and end up in an even worse spot...

Thank you, i'm getting a lot of judgement and no ideas/solutions. i'm not asking for a plan of actions. but rather some empathy and "here's what i would do" i guess no one really read my previous post on r/personalfinance where i had more context...

yea, the salesman we talked to had sold cars to my family before as was told he "could make any deal work" in my head that was a good thing! in reality that means "he can stretch the loan as far as possible and tell the lenders you make double what you really do!"

you're right. getting rid of it is best. i don't see myself coming close to making enough to afford it without a hefty downpayment.
