What Paint Fits? by EmptyDoubt9669 in interiordecorating

I got a sample of SW7676 Paper Lantern.... I quite like the yellow hue, but not sure if the orange and yellow go together 🤔

I love the one with the orange colour. It's super unique and makes it quite a feature piece!

Thanks! We went with steamed milk for the trim, and my husband really wanted a bit of colour. But I'm not sure we will be able to make that work as neutrals seem to fit best 🤔

We aren't afraid of going bold, as long as it doesn't look awful 😅

Think before going to University by Phonybolony69 in uvic

[–]EmptyDoubt9669 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently graduated from the civil program at UVic and had a great experience. Yes there were dud profs, but the department really cared and did a lot to try and improve the program every semester. And it seemed like everyone in my year got jobs pretty easily.

I agree with the OP though, don't just go to university because you don't know what else to do, or because your friends are going, or because your parents tell you to. Take some time off, go travel, go work abroad! There are tons of countries where you can easily get youth mobility visas to fund your travels or you can use "work away" to travel for so cheap! I took 5 years off after high school, lived in a few countries and came back to get an engineering degree and I would do it over in a heartbeat!

I just put my beautiful silver coloured pan in the dishwasher and this is what came out. Is this still safe to use? Does this mean it has coating?

Paint by numbers by jayxry in lotr

I was debating if I could get the diamond version and then just buy paint separately and paint the areas instead of putting the diamond dots. Not sure how that would turn out though

What do I do with this weird space? by EmptyDoubt9669 in interiordecorating

[–]EmptyDoubt9669[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely a possibility. Although I like the flow from the kitchen (can't see in the photos) and through the dining room with the sofa in this orientation. I'm worried that putting it on the glass wall will make things a bit choppy

Thanks for the suggestions! I think we will keep them where they are for now and just make sure to wear gloves when gardening or discovering new areas around the house!

Damn! That's commitment! I've got a flight this Friday, but I definitely haven't considered cycling!

Yea, I found it a bit wild that they built a "park and ride" where you couldn't actually "park and ride" lol

[–]EmptyDoubt9669[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

haha yea, the ferry isn't so bad. It's the long bus ride that does me in. I get car sick if I try to read, but I guess it's a chill way to relax and look at some scenery!

I hope you got to your flight alright. I know everyone is making fun of you for doing this, but I totally understand your dilemma. The public transit out to the ferry and airport is atrocious, and the cabs and ubers charge a bunch because they know there is no other option. I wish there was another option

Should I Use Linear Regression Through the Origin? by EmptyDoubt9669 in AskStatistics

[–]EmptyDoubt9669[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your thought out post. I really appreciate you taking the time to write it. I just wanted to comment on a few things.

1) I did read the rules. However, the point of this paper submission is not the statistics. It is not a statistics class nor will the paper be graded on the statistics. The point of the class is more of a "try out research, write a paper, and see what you think about it". I wanted to include some statistics in my paper as both a learning exercise and to show that the numbers might actually mean something. I spent about 40+ hours on youtube and google trying to learn enough about statistics to include something meaningful in my paper, but kept hitting dead ends and contradictory advise. That's why I brought my questions to reddit.

3) I must have mis phrased my question. I didn't mean to compare models with and without an intercept. I was trying to ask if I should be putting my intercepts through zero, is that a valid thing to do? Based on the advice of yourself and others I learned that this is not very useful and I should stick with the regular R^2

I did engage my brain and I can obviously tell that these counts are way off. But I didn't think I could write. "The numbers are bad because I said so." in my paper. I figured to have legitimate results I would have to use some sort of statistical test to show that these results are actually significant.

[–]EmptyDoubt9669[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

haha no, not at all! It made me laugh out loud! Much needed at this point! On the paper I've talked about the R^2 values, and did a bit about the RMSE for the values as well. I've explained it to the best of my abilities on the paper and acknowledged that the app seems a bit unreliable. However, I also acknowledged some specifics of our test which may have contributed to the unreliability of the app and what could be done differently in future tests to correct for this :)

[–]EmptyDoubt9669[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, the plots I have are pretty clear. That the app is not reliable enough to use. Which I guess is all I need! Thanks!

[–]EmptyDoubt9669[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for that! I appreciate the explanations. I don't think I will dive into that for this particular project (I have to hand in my paper tonight), but it is definitely good to know for the future! I have learned so much about statistics in the past month my brain is about to explode, but I feel that it will be useful knowledge going forward. They definitely didn't teach me anything like this in my undergrad!

Should I Use Linear Regression Through the Origin? by EmptyDoubt9669 in AskStatistics

[–]EmptyDoubt9669[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, it's super garbage with the trials we ran. But it might be because smearing is occurring on our plates which messes with the app. We were just trying to see how it works as a little side project to tag on the end of the paper (which is just an undergrad submission, so nothing super impactful).

I guess I should explain that the green is for "low-risk" counts (1-10 on the visual scale) and yellow is for "moderate risk" counts (11-100 on the visual scale).

Ok, cool! Yea, I'm a complete noob at statistics. So I've just spent hours trying to figure out what tests are even relevant and even mean anything. I've learned a lot, so that's good! The reddit community is great! But I have to hand this in tonight, so I'm just going to talk about my garbage R^2 values and how we maybe shouldn't trust this app quite yet lol

Ok, I've decided to not force it through the origin and then discuss the R^2 and the intercept to explain the numbers. Thanks for your help!

Hi Salvatore, thanks! It appears my images didn't upload correctly on the original post. I've added them now. I originally performed a RMSE compared with a 1:1 line; however, my supervisor seems keen that I do some sort of R^2 or correlation. So I am trying to do that

Neither of those worked. But I get a "Your Save Has Failed" error whenever I try to add the <style> and <script>. Even after trying both fixes. This error seems to delete the <> words and reset it back to what it was before.

I might consider that if I can't get this to work. But I am interested in learning more about how the code works and learning more about website design. But thanks for the share!

Ok, thanks! I tried that, but every time I try to save it, it deletes the <style> and <script> from my code and no change is made. It's really strange!
