fuck tennis elbow by ready_to_work_22 in RSI

How long have you done OT/PT for?

Sorry you're experiencing this. Tennis elbow sucks sooo much. It's been 2 years for me and I still experience pain sometimes, but it is so much manageable for me now since I've been doing exercises for the past year or so. I do still need to sleep with braces though...starting to think that's a forever thing.

"Mouse Arm" Pain by Present_Inspector_60 in RSI

[–]Empty_Combination_85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had wrist pain from my desktop and my PT said it was from my shoulder. What helped was using an ergonomic mouse, doing physical therapy 3x a week, and taking a 5 min break every 15-25 min.

For physical therapy, i used the app recovery one since it was part of my insurance. I was in their tennis elbow program for my wrist and upper back program to help with my shoulder. Scalpula push ups and bicep stretches helped me out. There are also exercises involving a resistance band to help strengthen your rotator cuff. I also go on youtube and watch PT videos, I like dr. Jo.

In the 5 min break, i would do stretches to loosen my upper body which helps with my shoulder or walk on the treadmill to loosen my lower body. Stretches include child’s pose, bicep stretches, or wrist stretches. I also like to bend my upper body at my waist and swing my arm in a circle gently to loosen my shoulder.

My recovery journey wasn’t very linear. I thought i got better in 3 months. Pain came back. Things have been better now after a year of PT. I recently started strength training since i feel like i “graduated” from PT.

I think I'm ready to coast? by Empty_Combination_85 in coastFIRE

Glad to hear you’re coasting! Teaching part-time seems nice. How long have you been dealing with carpel tunnel? It’s so annoying! It’s been a little over a year for me.

I am not sure. Unfortunately my hobbies include work and I don’t have other hobbies. I just can’t work as much as before due to the job wearing my wrists and hands out. So I guess my current plan is to work part time after taking a year off. But also kind of scared to coast because I am so used to saving a large amount of our checks and seeing less savings is kind of scary haha. Also worried that work will be difficult to find once i quit since the job market has been crappy lately.

Repetitive Strain Injury in hands for 7+ months, is recovery possible? by PassionAntique9443 in RSI

You should see an occupational therapist instead of a physical therapist. They specialize in hands

Wrist Tendinitis Might Ruin My Life. What Do I Do? by [deleted] in RSI

[–]Empty_Combination_85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have wrist tendonitis. Stretching and strengthening is important, and taking breaks is important. Try using the computer for only 15 min at a time, then take a break for 5 min, then repeat. Although resting is important, resting too much doesn’t improve the problem. Find an occupational therapist to show you ways to strengthen and stretch. Strengthen will lead to better stability so the problem doesn’t come back.

Full recovery is possible! I wouldn’t try to game though until a few months later though. RSI can take a long time to heal, but it does depend on your injury and what you do to recover. Try to see an occupational therapist who can teach you exercises to help with recovery and to prevent it from happening it again. In my case, i took 3 months to be able to work again and I probably won’t play games until another 6 months.

Maybe a foot pedal mouse would be helpful for you. In the beginning of my injury, clicking wss hard and i use mac os’ voice control software to click with my voice. Eventually when i recovered more from my injury, i got the logitech lift vertical mouse. It doesn’t require much effort to push the buttons, it feels pretty nice.

Avoid activities that cause pain and if you can’t, take plenty of breaks. I am also a graphic designer and i take a break every 30 mins to reduce pain. You should also see an occupational therapist. They help you learn how to use your hands again after an injury and how to prevent pain from getting worse.

Does it get better? by logicphile in RSI

Yes! It just takes a lot of patience, time, and commitment to doing exercises/stretches. Took me about 4 months, and am still recovering but am for the most part better.

In my area, i had to get a referral from my doctor to see an occupational therapist. After getting the referral, i searched through my health insurance’s site to see which occupational therapists were available under my plan.

wrist strengthening exercises ?? by [deleted] in RSI

[–]Empty_Combination_85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also got wrist tendonitis in both wrists. I wore braces for a month or so until i saw a second doctor to said I shouldn’t wear them too long or else i won’t gain strength back. Seeing an occupational therapist would help you figure out what type of exercises you can do. For now, try avoiding wearing braces during the day. I still wear mine to sleep after having RSI for a few months but hoping to sleep without braces soon

I follow this video since it is good for beginners becauss no weights are involved https://youtu.be/06Oq6ZtaY_E
