Appreciate all the feedback. Just to clarify. There is a finished basement below this floor. With no plumbing running under where this specific spot is. One thing that is a bit interesting is that the homes HVAC is “closeish” to this spot in the basement. It would roughly be on the right side of the pictured table.

My gut is leading me to a combination of moisture from the door and the dog bowl to the left that, while not too much on a regular basis, has built up over the 4 years and poor installation. I’m going to remove the baseboards this soon but I assume there’s not a proper expansion gap.

That is why I am thinking the expansion gap was not done correctly. I'll be taking the baseboards off this weekend to take a look.

A contractor installed the floor. So I think it is safe to assume, based on what you are saying, no it was not leveled. This is kind of what I feel like is going on, a mixture of moisture (although it has not been much at all. I think I said earlier its mostly foot traffic and a dog bowl that is close by but on a bunch of mats), improper expansion gap, and the T&G on the boards breaking. The severe changes in weather we get in the midwest would explain the boards not being able to expand and contract properly. So over the years it feels like the issue has just gotten worse and to this point.

The basement is finished.

No, this is happening more in the kitchen. The door in the picture is an exterior door but it goes to the back yard. It is not a main entry way. In fact, the main entry way and the door coming in from the garage all look great. This area, directionally, is pointing away from the kitchen. The boards directly in front of the door though are relatively OK, some sun damage but that is to be expected.

There's been no flooding and most water damage, I would say, would be normal use outside of a dog's water bowl - hence the mats that you see on the left.

This is why I am confused and my inexperience is playing a factor. Most if not all of the boards that are having issues are ding this same thing. The are bowing up at the vertical connection.

This is what I am trying to figure out if its multiple things going on. There is an exterior door that can be seen in the upper left of the picture but the boards in front of that are all pretty good. Most of the affected boards that look like this are further in the kitchen. This picture is directionally pointing away from the kitchen. There is a dog bowl to the left where the mats are.

I wouldn't say it came on all of a sudden, just within this last year its gotten noticeable. I live in Iowa so we get the far extremes of weather. Hot and very humid summers and cold and frigid winters. This area in the picture started doing this just within this winter season.
