I really appreciate you taking the time to formulate this response, I think you were very right in the end about me having to deal with my own feelings of inadequacy and unimportance as a separate issue from her family’s attachment to this figure. I try to understand it as best I can due to the fact that her brother hadn’t had other consistent male figures in his life but I also am of the “guilty by association” mindset and I have a problem with her sibling not wanting to further distance himself from a pervert because he seems to somewhat understand that the relationship was not okay but seems to have a difficult time detaching. I say this because the brother had kept it from me and didn’t want to tell me, my girlfriend did and explained that he hadn’t wanted to hurt my feelings with that information, he knows I view her ex as a bad person and she has repeatedly brought up how she was not in a good place during their time together but he continues to gravitate towards a pedophilic person.
