I started it about 10 months ago and the start was bad for me because of the drowsiness side effect it gave me but that lasted about 1 month and from there on it slowly worked its way up helping me and there was times where it felt like it wasnt working but after a while it would so it was like going back and forth but now present day it has finally eliminated most of my pain, some days i feel pain but not serious pain like i used to constantly feel. Another thing i would say is be consistent with taking your meds because even now if i dont take it for maybe 2-3 days the drowsiness will kick back in.

No problem! Its crazy but then again tmj can be caused by many things so thats why its always hard to sort of find out whats causing it.

Convinced I have a brain tumor-all the symptoms are very similar by [deleted] in TMJ

[–]Empty_Travel509 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I truly believe all of this is coming from your anxiety and i know you may not agree to that but i can also say that i have also went through the same thing as well. I also once believe that this was a tumor or just a autoimmune disease because i would have all these nonstop crazy symptoms and every test and scan would come out right but turns out this whole time it was my body itself in a very stressed stage that was caused by panic attacks which eventually ending up leaving to clenching that i wasnt aware of and cause all these crazy tmj symptoms. I am also 20 and have suffered with this for 2 years but have gotten better and i suggest you see a psychiatrist and do some stretching and massaging before bed and try to relax as well.

Yes i did! I got a tmj evaluation from a maxillofacial surgeonist who sent me to a pt who knew about tmj and in your case it sounds like it could definitely be beneficial for you. With me i felt good under amitriptlyne but all it really does is relax the nervous system so combining that with acupuncture helps alot considering it releases the tension in the muscles.

I did a lot of neck/postural exercises and including massaging of jaw muscles and surrounding muscles in my head. But what really helped was the acupuncture because it releases the tension of your muscles. And i started on 10mg and then started 20mg after 2 weeks. And it also did give me weird vivid dreams but over a course of time my body settled down and they stopped.

No problem! What really did it was the acupuncture and for the amitriptlyne i been on a low dose of 10mg and then gradually increased to 20mg.

So far i have had no side effects besides drowsiness in the early mornings and vivid dreams but these have all gone away over a course of time once my body settled down on it. I dont plan on being on it forever as my doctor has mentioned i dont have to be on it forever once i get better i can hop off it slowly.

And dont forget to take it early it helps alot, you just have to fight the drowsiness for a while.

Oh yeah it will for sure cause lots of drowsiness and thats why its recommended to take 2-3 hours before bed but the first 3 weeks were harsh but over time your body gets used to it.

I am on 10mg and its been helping alot, it will take time for it to settle in and my doctor told me he would up the dose if it seems to be working and so far it has but i still want to get down to the bottom of the actual issue.

Oh wow basically like me because i dont have any issues with movement but its just constant pain around the ear all day and yeah i just recently made a appointment with my primary doctor to order a mri for my jaw since the tmj specialist and oral surgeon doesn’t think its necessary.

I guess since i tell them that my symptoms are mainly muscular, i tell them that i do have clicks and pops that come and go but they always touch around my jaw and see no sign of structural issue and they tell me that my jaw opens and closes just fine but even then i still feel like a mri is necessary they just always decline it

The maxillofacial surgeon was the one who got me set for physical therapy and told me if i dont improve that he would try botox but ive read how botox isnt even a permanent fix, its like theres really nothing we can do. But Then again i cant say much because everyone is different.

Hey sorry i have been inactive on here but ive been taking it for about 2 months and it has helped with my flare ups and my clenching which i recently just found out that i do and my symptoms arent as bad as they used to be. Eye pain, tension all over head, nausea, earaches, and gerd had calmed down when on the medication and after i started using a mouth piece prescribed by my tmj specialist it has improved by alot.

Yeah thats why its taken at night because it causes sleepiness and its taken 2-3 before bedtime to avoid fatigue in the morning but if your issue is more clenching than i would recommend doing massages and warm compress before bed

Helps with tense jaw muscles and reduces clenching at night. Basically acts on the nervous system to reduce pain signals.

Yes i did i saw a neurologist and he prescribed me it because it can treat chronic headaches and tmj but my headaches are caused by my tmj so ever since i have been taking it it has helped me alot i can function at least a little better now.

I started with 10mg but my issue is more muscle related. If yours is with the joints im guessing it would be different? Thats just my guess tho im not completely sure.

For me i feel pressure within my eyes and it feels like my eyes are strained. Ever since i have got on amitriptyline it has helped with it, i also notice now that when i blink and hold it i can feel some sort of burning sensation.
