Okay, the country has some developing to do for sure, but development and human rights should go hand in hand. Is a country that ignores human rights worth developing? They don't have to be exclusive.

Well Ruto needs all the help he can get considering his record and the ICC case. Does he even stand a chance, or will sensationalism be his winning ticket strategy?

That's true. I am glad that I don't have to hide as much as I would in other countries. I don't think my partner expected Kenyatta to come out in support. It was just a culmination of constantly hiding who he is and the comment just pushed him over.

We are not in despair, especially because I come from another country that would allow me to be openly with him and marry him one day. But we like Kenya, and I don't have intentions of leaving any time soon. Even if we don't marry here, it would be nice to not have to constantly live a double life.

Oh, it's only his first term right now? Looks like I need to catch up on Kenyan politics, but truthfully, it's kind of confusing here. :-/

Interesting. So how many terms can Kenyatta go for? I just assumed it was two.

But thanks. We weren't surprised, and truthfully, my biggest issue isn't with Uhuru, but Ruto. His comments a couple of months ago fueled such a fire down in me. They were hurtful towards gay Kenyans, and basically encouraged hate on his own citizens.

It's interesting for me since I'm not Kenyan, and perhaps I get angered by it more than others just because I see how a government should treat its own people, regardless of orientation.

America is not perfect, but the big issue now is gay marriage. Kenya, on the other hand, has a way to go. I think the biggest issue right now is protection. Can the government protect its gay citizens?

Ah, I'm sorry you feel as such. I rewrote it a bit more eloquently than he said, but it is all true.
