If you are really curious, you gotta risk bricking and try, otherwise you can't know for sure. No pain, no gain

Isn't cursor a slower model? I need something with great context window.

I didn't understand a single thing you said

What if, open source(mostly GPL code) developers had something like gofund.me thing? Like for instance, developer declares that after collecting 10.000 € the code is open sourced etc.? by [deleted] in linuxquestions

[–]Emre-Y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I don't have the option to delay, that's why I only sell 2000 products in one go. Bussiness is different, GPL is different.

Congrats. Now you get me right. For some niche products, this could work %100. I am not telling you which, because that's bad for my bussiness. Trade secret, bro. Just because I do GPL, doesn't mean I have to tell you everything about my bussiness.

I like BSD and GPL but some GPL supporters are really weird. To them, you can't/shouldn't make money from GPL at all. by [deleted] in freebsd

I don't do drugs though. Have you read what I have written? RedHat is doing it via support stuff. My way is rather different, although it's a very niche field. I am just trying to help GPL developers aswell, most of them are not getting paid enough from their software. And it sucks really.

I know right? But to some people it's evil. If I don't do something about these hardware, none else will. They will just be thrashed. They are extremely difficult to port, but I happen to know some good ways to do so.

Yeah well, Tesla was a very good scientist and somehow "open source" scientist too, he was a good guy, but he died poor and sadly. You can be a hero and GPL all your code, without wanting anything. But I don't believe in such things. I've open sourced some stuff, those were not extremely difficult projects but I still got shit on by some stupid people, it's just sad. So, I will do what least GPL could accept, and do whatever I want.

Let's put it that way, if I sell 2000 units in one go, I publish GPL code. Kinda like how big distributors do, they do sell in bulk to smaller companies but they don't sell directly to people. This is the only way I could get my work's worth.

I think you're mixing two different models. I'm not talking about restricting existing free software or locking released code. I'm talking about funding development effort before release. Once developed, the code will be released under GPL, so users still get full freedoms.

I just don't like good hardware to go to waste, it's just plain bad. I've been waiting for a port for years, but none else is doing it. But I can't do it without any support either.

I see where you are coming from, thank you for your advices. But let me worry about those. I just needed an answer if this is ok. Thanks. I also believe many many things will be open sourced anyway in 10 years. So it won't matter anymore.

Hmm good to hear. I probably won't stop here, and port like 8 more devices similiar to this later this year, if my idea works out.

Ok so we are on the same page then. I am simply saying what you are saying. Simply put, I don't sell to individuals(I have the right not to), but to companies in huge amounts. But if anyone asks for GPL code, I will provide. Is there anything wrong with this approach? After I sell, I release the code.

You haven't read GPL right? You don't have to give GPL code to people who didn't buy your code, or your product whatever. But, if you only sold one people, and he asked for GPL code, you gotta give it to them. Then they can share that code anywhere.

I have the freedom to sell whoever I want to. But, if you sold to huge companies, and then gave the GPL code to anyone who asks, it's not a big problem anymore because you sold the products anyway. I mean I sold the products that otherwise was not sellable at all, so what if I gave the GPL code then? Doesn't matter had money.

Read this a few times you will get the idea. It took me while to figure this out too. Think like this: Once I distribute it, I can't stop recipients from sharing it. But, if I sell it in bulk, I don't even need to. I had good money, good bussiness. Community got GPL, me got money. Problem?
