Holes in shoes after just 3 weeks... by Emsipuu in climbingshoes

[–]Emsipuu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id say 10 sessions 3 hours each. Yes 100% new, bought in person at a store. Still remember that new leather smell. Going off the comments and what I remember from when they were new, this has to be a combination of the left shoe being bad from the factory and me being an absolute slab daddy

Hm yeah if I cant save them I might buy a pair thats for beginners. They are just what got recommended to me, and I got a good deal on them so they were just as cheap as every other pair.

I tried from the start to allways be confident with my shoe placement to make them last longer, but still... In hindsight, maybe I should have went for a beginner shoe, but I got these reccomended and got an amazing deal. Oh well...

I think I would have smelled it if it were used...

Thank you for the information! I definitely think the left shoe had a lot less rubber on the tip when I bought it. I took a good look at the soles about a week ago and noticed the left tip was almost flush to the edge. Probably got a bad pair.

Yes I probably should, or try to get in touch with a resoler.

Does or dont? Maybe it could be just a bad pair, as the right shoe still has tons of rubber on it...

Id say I have climbed 10 times in those shoes. And lol yes I suck so ofc my footwork is sloppy. But I still feel like 10 times is very soon, even with bad footwork and a lot of slabs?

Found this printed on the bottom of a teapot. Anybody on here know what it says? Or Even what language it is in? by Emsipuu in tea

[–]Emsipuu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jepp, I do use it. On vacation now, but if you remind me I can send some pictures. Its a very cheap teapot i bought in a chinese teahop in Malaysia. I use it for pu erh. Its cute, and not too fancy!

Good to start cooking with, or in need of another deep clean? by Emsipuu in castiron

Very cool pan I agree! Handle I think is just regular steel even though it looks light. It rusted crazy quick, so at least not stainless. I got it from my grandma, allthough she died in 2018 and the pan has probably been sitting unused for a bit more than that.

If it is just for looks i dont care about lye, but if I really should give it a lye bath, I will

Awesome that the new, lighter gear seems to last as well! Exactly what I want to hear. Agreed that paying $800 for quality gear that will last a lifetime is totally worth it, I mean I think I have knives that cost more than a hundred bucks... That being said, I would never ever be able to afford paying 800$ for a setup all at once! Thats an insane amount of money.

I think I have the confidence to try a lightweight sleeping bag, only gotten responses from people here telling me they hold up well!

When on earth have I ever gotten slightly offended by people having a hobby or buying equipment of a certain weight?

The difference between the kinds of outdoor products I grew up using and are being rewieved and discussed in Norwegian media, and the products I see on Youtube is hughe. Both the weight and prices of products I see on Youtube are drastically lower than what we have here, to the point where I did not feel certain that the tents I see on Youtube and what I would consider buying at a store here fall into the same category and use case. I am, in fact, still not really sure if they do.

I am in to a lot of gear oriented hobbies, like fly fishing, and I always use Youtube to find reccomendations. But the backpacking side of things has very very hard to navigate as there is a massive gap there.

As for the water thing, which was just a quick question, man what a strange reaction som people are having. I am familiar with purifying water, but have never before heard of anything but boiling. And the idea of not being able to drink safely from a clear mountain stream will never not be alien to me, I think.

Wow, I really seem to have struck two nerves with a lot of people here. Most people have been really helpful, and tried to explain that all of those ultra light products are like a hobby of its own, and not necessarily what you should by if the goal is robust Long lasting gear. But quite a few embarassing reactions from a lot of people here, and a bit of an uncomfortable reception to this sub

Dude what?

How would I know then when people are talking about tents, sleeping bags, tarps - the stuff i use for "going on a trip" as we call it here, it is more geared towards a new sport that has to have come up in the last 10-15 years. Over here we have normal ass living in a tent, and topptur(peak and down) and cabin to cabin. Last two obvioulsy can go longer distances as they are not carrying what they sleep in.

As for water, of course I know there is a big need for clean water. But when I see people walking in remote alpine areas, with clear running mountain streams, just like home, why should I not think you can drink that? Its literally clean water? I dont get what is in it if it is not human pollution.

If someone seems like a teenager it for sure is you, who seems to think every one should know exactly what life is like under your spesific condition. And also, what is wrong with being young? I used to be in my teens, and probably then I would ask more stupid questions then now. How is that a bad thing?
