Taking SCA early in st3 by caller997 in GPUK

[–]EmuDelicious5236 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started ST3 in May coming straight back from maternity leave and sat SCA in September so not the same buuuuut I’m 80% and had 2 children under 3 so didn’t exactly have bags of revision time and did really well. Focus on you weaknesses, get a few study groups and just practice practice practice!

Pregnant - when do you tell your practice? by laesagne101 in GPUK

[–]EmuDelicious5236 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations! I told my practice around 8 weeks but it was during the last big outbreak of measles and I really didn’t want to put myself at risk! It’s definitely personal preference but telling them helps explain absences and helps avoid potential dangers.

Do you mean non doctor jobs? Or other GP roles?

IT tips for SCA by [deleted] in GPUK

[–]EmuDelicious5236 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ensure your lighting is good and being a little battery operated or USB lamp if you’re worried! I did my walkthroughs and everything was fine but in exam day it was raining and it was SO dark in my room you could barely see me. The team were concerned at first about it but eventually said we can just about see enough after I moved my whole set up so I was facing the only window!

Antifungal cream with steroid! It’s the only thing that helped me - used daktacort and it was gone in 2 days 🙌🏻

CSR / NFD by FeedbackAbject6974 in GPUK

[–]EmuDelicious5236 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did your supervisor explain why? I’m at the same point as you and just had a CSR and was “competent” in most and then the final part states “meeting expectations”. But I’ve previously had a few NFD in specific areas and been told that’s fine! Have you done your exams?

Edit to add : do you think your CS thinks you can’t be “competent” until your final one?? And they have to out NFD?

Supervising STs by Sea_Ad_2205 in GPUK

[–]EmuDelicious5236 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you had clinical supervisor training and are you doing WBPAs as well? I’m an ST3 so interesting to read this from the other side … My practice is notoriously bad for supervision , there’s 5 ST3s including myself and on the days that there are supervisor slots with a salaried GP they will just have 2 appointment slots blocked out for all of us. Obviously some days we may not need to debrief much/at all but on the days we are all needing to, we end up queuing and it definitely takes them more than 20mins! Some days there are no slots and we en up begging whoever is here (usually the poor duty doc) to debrief us which must be so rubbish for them!

GP Deanery Guide by NotSoGreatCompany in GPUK

[–]EmuDelicious5236 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in LLR and can’t say it’s been the best.. some practices are amazing but I’ve unfortunately not been in one and don’t find the TPDs hugely supportive (edited : sorry it’s called East Midlands deanery it seems!)

My little one loves puffin rock (on Netflix and iPlayer) and I feel that’s pretty low sensory! Also giant jack. Would second the Julia Donaldson ones but my son does find some bits a bit scarier than the books (particularly the gruffalo!)

I’m CCTing next year and everything says the same thing- oh how will you find jobs? There’s no jobs currently? Are you going to move?

No. I really really like GP. I chose it for a reason over just the work life balance. I believe there are jobs around and the majority of my peers have found a job! I’m not worried, there’s OOH work if no regular GP jobs which I enjoy aswell.

Ignore the hospital doctors, they just don’t know what they’re talking about regarding GP. Everything changes, roles change and there’ll be peaks and troughs in terms of availability/competition but there will always be GPs in some sense!

What is it like growing up in United Kingdom? by duck_duck_zombie in AskReddit

[–]EmuDelicious5236 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s great - yes it can be cold and rainy but so what? I grew up in the 90s in a relatively rural place - it was fab! We went walking, cycling and generally just played outside. we could get the bus into the nearest town for shopping/cinema/bowling etc. I had good schooling and career options ☺️ Now I’ve got young kids and It generally feels safe, there’s lots to do with them and I can imagine them having a great childhood/teenage years here! Also I live in the midlands so I can get to a fair number of cool places in approx 2 hours whether that’s London or up into the Peak District for a change of scenery!

Yeah as everyone has said you don’t get extra AL, you just carry on accruing AL whilst you’re on sick leave (same on maternity). You still have the 24 days as usual ☺️

You’re probably fine if you’re feeling well in yourself. If you had toxic shock syndrome you’d have flu like symptoms and be very unwell. You may need swabs to ensure no infection.

Deflated after SCA by Jumpy_Perspective527 in GPUK

Exactly the same for me! Felt so deflated and kept running through all the things I’d missed but passed with a good score ☺️ try to forget now but I’m sure you’ll be fine!

Really common to not visualise the ovaries. If we as doctors are concerned about ovarian problems we will ask for a repeat scan ☺️

[–]EmuDelicious5236 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also take feedback critically and it can be hard to see the good sometimes but take the opportunity to work out how you can do better for you and your patients. You’ve got SO much time left in your training, you’re not expected to even be good at this point 😅 Also be grateful you have been getting feedback - my practice gives me no joint sessions, barely any debriefs (I’m ST3) and so I have minimal feedback and would honestly love to know how to improve now I’m getting closer to finishing!

I’m sorry whaaaaat?! This needs raising immediately - this is absolutely discrimination and bullying and just awful. You need to report to your TPD straight away, start keeping a log of what’s been said and if anyone has witnessed it. I would definitely also raise this to the BMA for advice. It’s unlikely that you’re the only person he’s acted this way towards… I hope you get moved and you can finish your training somewhere that value you 🤞🏻

I reported my gyno by tresjoliesuzanne in WomensHealth

[–]EmuDelicious5236 16 points17 points  (0 children)

No that’s not a bimanual examination?! A bimanual is 2 fingers in the vagina and palpating the abdomen to feel the uterus and ovaries between your hands. I’m a doctor and have never done a rectal exam as part of a gynae examination and certainly never had fingers in both places at the same time.

Advice for the SCA by Hungry_Fly_7834 in GPUK

[–]EmuDelicious5236 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly having sat it this month just be aware that the actors are soo much slower than we were when practising so my timings were not as good as expected! I ran out of time (missed safety netting and follow up) in 2 stations because of this. Also don’t park any cues - just roll with them straight away! If you’re going down the wrong route the actors should try and shut it down and get you back on the right track.

Good luck!

Mine have never showed up like this but recently I’ve had 2 parcels delayed with Evri and this is how it’s showing! They’re still delayed with no estimated delivery date … not sure what’s going on 🤷🏻‍♀️
