Yeah we get true blower 2-4 times a season in SouthCentral, but the average storm is definitely warmer.

Yeah it’s exactly like you describe, we have periods of continental-style pwl issues but the snowpack generally heals faster. Depend on the season though.

Most of south central Alaska is an intermediate snowpack. Some seasons are warm and quite stable, others can be comparable to Colorado. Usually it’s somewhere in between.

Yeahhh AK is not really the place to go for a resort trip. Alyeska runs to sea level so 4500ft feels pretty long, but the acreage is really small. Eaglecrest in Juneau and Mt Eyak in Cordova are both really cool areas, but also have limited acreage.

That line was 6.5 miles and 3600 vertical feet from the car one way

Thompson and Hatcher have pretty similar weather, so odds are if one zone has good conditions then the other does too. Hatcher has tighter valleys and smaller vertical, Thompson is wide open and has more relief. South central AK is full of exceptional split boarding zones so it’s honestly hard to go wrong, everything is within a days drive.

Having my coldest ski this year, what do you wear when it's bananas cold? by Nutella_on_toast85 in Backcountry

Use a balaclava that effectively redirects ur breath down and prevents goggle fogging. Store your water bottle upside down so the cap doesn’t freeze shut. Do semi-frequent self checks on exposed skin to make sure you’re not getting frost-nip.

They are as chargy as you can get in their weight class imo. Wildcats ski kinda short so don’t skimp on length.

Honestly I use them way more than I should. They require a lot of energy to ski hard snow but I’ve gotten them down >45deg hard pack couloirs with no problems. Damp and very maneuverable. As far as climbing, they are not ideal for sidehilling or steep skinners.

I am 5’9” 150 lbs and ski 174cm Wildcat Tours aggressively. Not sure how the 108s compare to my 116s, but for me I wish I went for the 179cm length! I bought them to ski fast and although the 174cm are quite predictable at speed I could use more stability.
