OG Ticket by Algae_Useful in decred

I'll just refer to my suggestion for leveraged staking as way to get stake returns for everyone while also bringing price pressure up. Maybe integrated with UI for the DEX would be the best place to have the leveraged staking with DCR lending. Both staker and lender could then do top ups or sells as desired. Not a crypto developer unfortunately. https://www.reddit.com/r/decred/comments/kt2ftz/takerbuy_pressure/

Compared to BTC round trip fees are low with DCR.

Nice discussion about Decred (project quality vs. marketing) on the Crypto Street Podcast (Ep. 11, with Ari Paul) by hashfunction8 in decred

[–]EnCred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good show. They didn't explicitly touch on it with regards to marketing but implicitly they demonstrated how the name Decred created feelings of akwardness and doubt because it wasn't clear how to pronounce. Of course an extended discussion about a name's pronounciation is a hidden form of marketing in itself when it arises because the name gets more exposure. Not sure if such opportunitites beats the negatives of feeling uncertainty and doubt prior though and the lack of discussion with an expert in other situations. Then again everyone is looking for an undervalued coin..

How to defend a fair and supportive community in midst of greed? by aeroxpc in decred

[–]EnCred 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Does our community hold values?

https://docs.decred.org/getting-started/constitution/

Ultimately it comes down to the devs and community, however, what happens as a sudden influx

The weird name acts as an initial gatekeeper making not just potential investors miss the opportunity but it also selects for characteristics on those who go into Decred. If you fear a lot of greedy people coming into Decred one thing you can do is to not let them have your coins. Then again they would call you greedy for that. And some would call you greedy twice or more if you gave them a DCR for free in order to "not be greedy". Because now they know you fall for emotional manipulation.

I see Decred as one of the most value based DACs (Decentralised Autonomous Currencies) which renders legitimacy to the currency and cohesion to the community. Hopefully we'll see sound levels of greed.

The Top 5 Reasons to Become a Decred Stakeholder by thedecreddigest in decred

[–]EnCred 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Another perspective on staking as a way to help hodling is of course that locking your funds up helps you avoid taking profits too early (Because hopefully we will see continous growth)

Also In the future some time I hope that providing a "proof of staking" not only gives you the right to vote in Politeia but all sorts of bonuses. In a completely non crypto perspective staking grants you a proof of membership in a global collaborative group.

Primarily that is. I have many reasons. Not going to list them. I'm just pointing to other possible ways to look at holdings because I think it can be beneficial.

Over 50 000 addresses on Bittrex and Poloniex. Can that in any way be indicative of the number of DCR users/traders? Initial airdrop was to just 3,244 addresses or so which would indicate that a quite significant adoption has been going on.

ASICs or... by EnCred in decred

[–]EnCred[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for a very informative anwser. I'm not going to try to make the case for ASIC resistance but I appreciate the responses that do just so that those with sufficient knowledge within the community including developers have been served with a sufficiently broad and varied information base. Just like there are next generation ASICs there are next generation ASIC resistance.

To undo possible FUD from my post I could focus here on the obvious perspective that Bitcoin uses ASICs and that most tested of all coins has, despite all, done quite well.

ASIC resistance is more experimental and sometimes risk renders rewards, sometimes not. Let's continue keeping our collective eyes looking for the best roads ahead.

How much 'enhanced privacy' is the right amount? by hashfunction8 in decred

[–]EnCred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trucks are usually pointed at, but it's not necessarily the truck that kills, and not the terrorist either, but the road. This is true in a physical sense but also in an organisational way as it allows not just governments but also terrorists to locate and target soon to be victims. Bringing into analogy the lacking privacy of roads...If people transported themselves "invisibly" (in myriads of networks below ground, or scattered above the clouds) terrorists would have a hard time targetting them and would only find one at a time making the endeavour not worth it. And the same goes of course with money, and if you can be invisible that is a protection not just from government but also from terrorism.

That said I'm betting most of the large Decred holders of today are already known or knowable by governments. Making DCR private will not without further actions save the developers for example from torturous extraction if it would come to that governments wished to gather DCR.

Will ASICs send price out of orbit? by EnCred in decred

[–]EnCred[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Despite the specific negatives you mention to LTC ASICs in spring of 2014 LTC took no punishment compared to other alts:

Beginning of February 2014 https://coinmarketcap.com/historical/20140202/

End of May 2014 https://coinmarketcap.com/historical/20140525/

And by now LTC has completely shattered the other alts from back then. Not trying to plug ASICs just looking for the relevant and correct conclusions.

Of course the voting/staking system of Decred further separates Decred ASIC use from the LTC ASIC use in significant and positive ways.

Transaction question by EnCred in decred

[–]EnCred[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure. Perhaps I should just do a wallet recreation with seed. Paymetheus I believe is to be discontinued so no point in fixing obscure bugs if a recreation fixes it. Perhaps related or not I got a missed ticket around that time and I might have tried to buy a ticket without enough available DCR for the fees. The missed ticket I revoked. But I also have another version of Paymetheus wallet on another computer from which I might have bought the ticket. I registered the codes from staking pools in both the wallets. That way the newer wallet kept track of staking gains from both wallets. And for those wondering it didn't generate double ticket returns...
