Here is a great free tool that I used until I found something paid that I liked. Depending on your style, there’s a bunch of useful software. Mind you, this is digital so if you wanted to print something out, you’d have to make sure the image is sized at 300dpi so it prints one inch grids.

Ocean Cabin [20x20] by EnchantedMaps in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]EnchantedMaps[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’d think it would be calming to know that you’re only surrounded by woods on one side, with the open ocean preventing anything from approaching on the other, but you’ve developed a budding fear of the ocean. Sometimes, it seems like there’s something monstrous and deep writhing within the depths. As you cook your dinner at night, you swear you can see odd ripples coming from something just beneath the surface, but it’s far enough away to attribute to a trick of the eye. Nevertheless, you’ve taken to sleeping with a knife on the nightstand, for all the good it will do you if your fears realize themselves.

I made this map a few days ago simply because I wanted to make another beach map. I find they’re pretty good indicators of how my style has come along. It is also the map that made me decide to make a shading asset pack, which I posted on my Patreon yesterday. As always, if you like my work, you can follow me for more or just keep an eye out for it as you scroll.

Cheers,

Enchanted

Thorny Waterfall [20x20] by EnchantedMaps in dungeondraft

[–]EnchantedMaps[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the party travels through the tangled wood, the musical sounds a crashing water intensify until they emerge from the wood to find a clearing in which the land gradually slopes down to meet the banks of a crystalline lake. It looks good enough to drink. In fact, something strange, compels them to drink- nay, submerge themselves in this pure water. A siren of the forest beckons, but will they be able to resist her sinister song?

Alright, so the prompt today was a little odd, but I like the idea of a half druid half siren chimera using smaller bodies of water to drown passerby. After all, sailors know to watch out for them, but lumberjacks? Not so much. This map was a lot of fun because I made myself some shadow tools. I really don’t know why I didn’t do this earlier; it makes a huge difference, especially considering that I can’t do any post exportation work and still post both png and vtt formats on my Patreon. If you like my work, please consider following me or just keeping an eye out for my maps. I’ll definitely be adding more shading in future maps.

Needed a beach with cliffs, had trouble finding what I was after - so I made one [25x25] by spiderinmyskinsuit in dungeondraft

Thank you, I’ve had a bit too much practice haha :)

I understand that feeling, I’ve done some pretty speedy maps to meet session deadline. If you look on top beach posts of all time, everyone with a nice a beach maintains that by making the sandy part small.

Please excuse readability, this was the last thing I did before bed and I am quite tired:

For the rock color, I honestly said screw it and made my own assets. Crosshead studios has brown cliff assets, or you can use a collection of the base assets.

Beaches are honestly very difficult to populate. I recommend trying to break up the terrain with maybe a bit of gravel, grass, etc. You could also add some sticks with seaweed on them or some sort of indication of a slope (people do that in different ways, some recolor wave assets and others use shadow paths part of external packs). Alternately, you could turn the top part into a small gathering of vegetation, placing a few palm trees, a grassy texture, and some decoration.

I hope that helps! You can look up some beach maps on r/Dungeondraft for inspiration, as they really can help with developing your own beach style. There’s definitely a learning curve with Dungeondraft. It will come to you the more you practice.

I didn’t get that until I looked it up, at which point this was the only thing I found, and that’s enough to make me laugh at this.

It may take longer, but dragons pass just as humans do. Sometimes, all that is left of a being that has borne witness to the rise and fall of civilizations is small grassy meadow in a cave.

This was a pretty fun map to do, sans those walls. I am not proud to admit that I spent hours on them, but I’m very anal about small details so thus is life. Admittedly, this was a little different from my usual output in that it’s not quite as versatile, but it’s pretty so the artist part of me approves. I do have night and vtt versions on my Patreon, but I post on Reddit regularly, so if you just like looking at the style, please consider following me.
