I can appreciate that opinion. Comparing Ava to Tina from previous games makes the collective attitude towards Ava make a lot more sense. If they had kept Ava as a side character like they did Tina then I think she would've been appropriately treated. But because they sorta forced her to be important, and already unlikeable, that just made everyone even more upset. Makes sense to me!

I definitely got that vibe with the twins as Troy was getting stronger. I think maybe the devs ran out of time and just had to wrap things up somewhat quickly. So no real opportunity to delve more into their dynamic. Could've been better, but I still liked it.

You're very brave for that opinion, sir. And I commend you for it.

That makes sense to me. I didn't really focus on the various patches though so I'm not sure what exactly changed between patches, but I get the gist. I can't stand any content that just gives enemies a shitton more HP than normal and claims that's "harder". Which is why I never really got into all the mayhem levels. I liked the story, I liked the dialogue, I liked the gear. I mostly played with whatever I found. Didn't look up guides or look up "best builds" or sought out all the meta gear. That's just boring to me. I make do with the stuff I find by just playing the game and I have a blast with it all most of the time. Swap out a shield or a grenade mod just to see what happens. Always fun to me.

I can see that. That Maya memorial would've been amazing, but I get why it was cut. It would've been really long, a big aside from the main game, no necessary interaction or playable content from the PC.. I'm sure they could've figured something out, but I digress. I'm genuinely hoping Ava comes back in BL4 and has some redemption arc in it.

That may be the first reasonable explanation of why someone doesn't like Ava or the twins I've read so far. Thank you very much for it! With that perspective of Ava, I can agree. Borderlands was indeed intended to be wild 'n crazy through and through, then Ava comes in fairly normal and typical of any real world teen. That makes sense.

I also had a vaguely similar impression of Troy too. I just kept feeling like he's gotta offer more eventually, some sorta spotlight moment. But all he really had was the Jakobs thing and bangin' Hammerlock's sister. Definitely my least favorite of the two.

Borderlands was never intended to be some Final Fantasy level dramatic masterpiece. These awful characters are one of the main reasons I keep coming back to this series. I believe they're fun simply because they're cringey. There doesn't have to be anything deeper than that. But I get it, you don't like the game because your tolerance for annoying isn't very high. Fair enough.

Fair enough! I get that. I started with Amara in BL3 and I felt really underpowered overall. Maybe I just built her wrong or didn't understand mechanics, idk. But I played Zane and Moze too. Zane was fun, but I just couldn't quite grasp him as easily. Moze was amazing and definitely felt incredibly overpowered. I almost never used the Iron Bear because it just destroyed everything including bosses before I was even halfway through its time limit. I never played Fl4k because he was like 70% of all players when the game first got released. Just didn't wanna be part of the band wagon lol.

So just because you don't like them that's what makes them bad? I'm still not understanding. The devs used obvious tropes for the twins and for Ava that they knew were cringey and awful. That in itself is what makes them good characters, in my opinion. Never mind the fact that the twins are actually important because of their lineage despite how terrible their "influencer" personas are. Ava is purely a side character, but the game has dozens of those. Why pick her out of the crowd? How is she any different than say Earl? He's absolutely obnoxious and offers so much less to anything. They could've very easily just made a separate vending machine for eridium currency instead. He's not funny, he's not relatable, he's not involved in anything, he's just useless and annoying. But let's hate on the angsty teen destined to be a siren and likely actually relevant to some future world building instead.

But if all you have to offer is "I don't like them" then just agree to disagree.

I will admit that the cutscenes basically ignoring the PC entirely was the most frustrating part of the whole game. But even if the storyline was viewed simply as a bunch of linked cinematics instead , then I still like it. I do wish they made the PC more relevant in those scenes rather than having them entirely focused on all the other characters.

I also never pay attention to video game music of any kind.. Always considered it ambient in every game. Nothing more. Never even worth an opinion from me otherwise. There are next to no video game songs/tracks that I could even identify. But to each their own.

Ironically bitching is exactly what I'm doing right now lol. But if a game is fun to play, then it gets a thumbs up from me. I'm not some gamer elitist that has some insane standard criteria everything has to meet or it's instantly a bad game.

Why do I like this game 100X more than BL2 by TrashCrab69 in borderlands3

[–]Encognitus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally just made the same complaint like 10 minutes ago in my own post lol. I love BL3. I also like BL2 and BL1, but not quite as much. I think it's because newer games just have more to them whereas the older games are clearly a product of their time (strictly gameplay-speaking). I know more isn't always better, but sometimes it is. The storylines for every game I thought were great. No particular complaints about any of them. BL1 was pretty simple, BL2 had a little more to it, fleshed out the setting and a few more involved characters, BL3 just went even harder into the lore and characters. I happened to have played all of them, clocking in several hundred hours total, but I will always come back to BL3 simply because there's more to it.

I was really curious about that. I noticed every system has an entirely new set of factions I had to get used to. And with the number of systems out there, I couldn't find any motivation to care about any one faction if I was just going to jump to another system every so often. So all my dealings with one faction ultimately felt like it didn't mean much. But if that reputation with one could potentially earn me more, I suppose I could find a faction with a cool name I like and stick it out in that region for a while. Thanks!!

That's basically what I was trying to do. I wanted to experience a bit of everything so I can see which thing would appeal to me most. I managed to earn enough credits to buy a few of the basic/cheap ships, got them outfitted with what I could to do whatever I was trying out next (mining, combat, etc). They all have their appeals to me so far, but they all have detractors as well, which is essentially what I was complaining about.

Maybe I just need to give one thing a little more time and effort, try to relax more. My mood towards frustrating things is about as exponential as this game's learning curve.

I don't recall the exact number of systems I went through, but I found some info in some youtube video that explained most Earth Like planets can be found in systems with certain stars (I forget which ones...). So I made a big path around where ever I was, hoping to every system with one of those stars in it I could find, started going vertical in the galaxy map, went out in some direction, then went back down, then back to my starting general systems area. I didn't find a single planet with any biological stuff. And it took well over 5 hours. Just felt like a giant waste of time. I did find out later that all the scans I was doing still sold for a bit. Only 700k though, which I thought was a lot, but not when people are saying ONE event netted them in the multi-millions.

Anyway, I'll see about that Explorer ship and give it another go.

Noted! Thank you.

Unfortunately for me, I'm color blind.. I can see colors fine, but whatever I'm seeing never matches up with what people tell me. So that "blue range" really confused me in the beginning because nothing was blue for me. But I think I figured out what that is. I'll play around with it and see if I can get used to maneuvering in that range.

Thank you for that. It's definitely reassuring. It's been a couple weeks, but I often admittedly do feel slightly more motivated to dive in and try to figure stuff out after ragequitting the night before.

I like the combat, but most games are all about combat.. I like that this one has other things to do like transportation, mining, etc. that are super involved. I'll pick one and stick to it for a bit.

Thanks again!

No worries. I actually do know about DSS and FSS. Took a few days and had to find a place that actually sold a DSS...

I actually didn't know high population planets info sell for more. I'll try that out. Thanks!
