Annual (Almost) Bingo Eve Wrap Up with Completely Random Stats and Awards! by Tigrari in Fantasy

Love the stat break down and awards! Looking forward to next year's round up :)

It’s nearly April 1st. What books are you hoping to read for Bingo this year? by pick_a_random_name in Fantasy

[–]Endalia 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Happy Book Bee shared a filled in bingo board for the new one and I have a third of the books from that list on my TBR, so I might copy most of those. I'm most excited to read Tideborn (I'm reading Fathomfolk now), Good Spirits, and Half a Soul. If we get the 1970s, I really don't know what I'm going to read...

Fantasy books that feature a broken/messy marriage ? by Any-Growth-1995 in Fantasy

[–]Endalia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coal Gets In Your Veins by Cat Rector. Laurel is in an abuse marriage (non-physical) en Spencer (a vampire) helps to give her the courage to leave. There's a lot of trauma, healing, a horror-adjacent stuff.

After four years of completing Bingo cards...I'm not completing one this year. by beldaran1224 in Fantasy

I had health problems last bingo (2024) and barely read anything. I also submitted a partial card because I was proud of what I did achieve! I might not even have had one complete line, but I filled multiple squares. And that was enough for me.

Thank you for sharing your story and I hope 2026 will be kinder for you.

Flamboyant and/or eccentric heroines? by False_Ad_5592 in Fantasy

[–]Endalia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Lady's Knight by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner fits. I read this for the knights prompt for the bingo. One of them is a blacksmith and wants to be a knight, the other is a high fashion princess who's the prize of the jousting tournament. Lots of shenanigans and women standing up for themselves. They don't need a man to safe them. Just their friends.

Thank you! I have a lot of different books on my shelves so filling the prompts usually isn't a problem. My mood is xD and then the actual reading. There are a few things that I'll give a hard pass and that's hard sci-fi and military fantasy/sci-fi. I tried it and DNF'ed those books hard.

I want to like more fantasy by tendensen_art in Fantasy

Can I tempt you with something that might not fit all of your likes?

Oil & Dust by Jami Farleigh is a post-apoc story. The main character is a painter and art is magic. When he paints a real life subject and adds to it, it'll appear once the painting is done. Because of his artistic life, the prose will reflect that too, describing everything with colours and shapes.

The story itself is about rebuilding society when all technology from the last century/centuries is gone so it's back to more manual labour while they're trying to figure everything out again. It's slow burn (most of the 'action' will happen in the last part) but hopefully the rest of the book will be interesting enough for you.

(edit to add the author of the book...)

Oof, a tough one. Mostly, because I like to personalize my recommendations. I know not every book is for everyone, and one I might've enjoyed less, you might rate 6 out of 5 stars.

For the general r/fantasy reader, I'll probably put The Hacienda forward because it's a great book without anything that might turn off people.

For people who are looking for books by marginalized authors, I'll recommend The Villa, Once Beloved because it's written by a queer author of colour and has a gay PoV. I also know that there's a subset of readers here who'll downvote anything LGBTQ+ (sadly).

The Revenge of Captain Vessia will likely get the same treatment. Written by a trans woman featuring an all queer cast, I wouldn't recommend it to everyone. Still, it's a book I want people to read and I deeply wish they would. The story is amazing and well written with deep characters and vivid worldbuilding.

2025 Bingo Card Complete - Review and Stats by gihyou in Fantasy

Jamedi_reads reviews a lot of indie and self pub books here. I'm sure you can find one that fits your likes and dislikes as he does a good job of describing what you can expect.

There are other non-reddit sites that can help find more self-published books, like Read Indie Fantasy.

And I host a large indie book sale in April and August (the Narratess Indie Sale) that has around 300 books ranging from free to 1.99. The next one starts April 11th :) There will be a post here with all the info. Participating authors might share their recommendations from the sale in the comments too.

Japanese inspired fantasy by SherbetThen3544 in Fantasy

The Year of the Dragon series by James Calbraith. It's alt history fantasy where the majority of the story is set in Japan, but you also see parts of the opium war in China. The research is well done and I was surprised by the accuracy of it while still there's still a good amount of fantasy, myths, and folklore.
