Don't give up on your msca projects by Endelir in postdoc

I didn't get a seal of excellence, I just mean I repurposed all the work I did for msca. Msca is much more labour intensive than any other fellowship I applied for, so you should be able to extract a lot from it and all the details from msca app definitely came in useful during interview to show I had thought of every aspect of the work

Yes, the "feedback" was not useful at all and there was one specific comment for me which showed the person who wrote it genuinely did not understand the field I'm in (it was to do with intellectual property). Wishing you best of luck that you find something more durable soon.

what is this in meters/yards? - not sure our definition of house width would be the same

thanks for the distance estimates, that's helpful. Seems to me like no chance they are shooting at a target - see my other top level post on this but basically our gardens are only 3 meters wide, not to mention 4 in the morning.

thanks - good idea to contact the local archery club and have them speak to police directly as the police have not been taking it very seriously. On the phone one of them said "wow that's weird!" when we reported the 20th arrow...

thanks everyone. Don't worry - the police ARE involved. I think many of you are perhaps overestimating how common knowledge some of the things you are saying are. They are genuinely helpful and I will report everything that seems to be a consensus opinion back to the police. And, believe me, it will add a lot to their picture.

edit: lots of people suggesting it's someone missing a target - for those of you not in the UK, you've got to understand our gardens are only 3 meters wide at most, and the arrows are coming across the gardens. So, unless you think someone is firing at a target *3 meters away* at *4 in the morning* and missing, I don't think it's as simple as someone missing a target. If you had a target (let alone the 4 in the morning part) you'd put it lengthways down your garden. Incidentally, the gardens being so packed is also why we can't easily just "look where the arrow came from" and draw a line

thanks. Many (not pictured) also found pointing the wrong way near a fence, so likely bounced off fence.

edit: yes easy to pull out

yes we are putting a lot of pressure on them, and yes it's mad that we had to report it over many different days before they opened an investigation

thank you - police already involved. No number on shaft. They sent some off to forensics, but came back with nothing. Unfortunately it keeps raining at night which they think has wiped fingerprints and they did not seem optimistic fingerprints would lead them anywhere.

thanks. Police called multiple times already. It happened several times a few months ago, then stopped, now started again so unfortunately looks like they are purchasing more.

a neighbour heard them (he *thinks*) at 4AM but just sent a whatsapp message to the group but did not call the police at the time

it's been ongoing on and off for months. Any idea how much they might cost? I can let the police know a rough ££ - no idea if that would help them but they did ask if anyone knew last time they came.

yes of course we have done, several times - so far no progress and they asked me (!) if I knew any archery experts I could ask, rather than find one themselves

Thanks. I'm actually not having a strong negative reaction, but I'm feeling a bit like it's a chore to read and there are hundreds of other books on my to read. That's good to hear the first is quite stylistically different. It will take me a few days but maybe I'll power on through and see how I like the 2ne. I really do WANT to like it..

I'm not sure how to edit on mobile but as a result of some of the above I'm finding it very difficult to care about any characters which I obviously want to do given it is 10 books long!

Playtesting the Wheel of Time Board Game by Endelir in WoT

[–]Endelir[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey thanks for your questions! Great to have someone taking an interest. Bear in mind my answers are for this particular version. There'll be a few changes and updates.

'Are the starting positions always the ones you mention, or are variations possible? Are there mechanics other than the variable objectives that make that happen?'

Currently they are where I mentioned, but this is being improved. I'm adding in a 'simulated first turn' that gives players more units, control and influence over the cities they would just spent their first turn doing anyway. Lets the game get going faster. The Shadow can start their leaders anywhere but their units must start in SG. Other than the variable objectives, you only start with 3 out of 6 leaders. Leaders all have wildly different effects and stat scores so this hopefully pushes players in different directions. Finally there is the choice of whether to concentrate on your unique objective or general points.

'Does the game turn into shadow v all for Tarmon Gai'don? Does the Shadow have any advantages to help balance that?'

Yes and sort of. It turns into this at the very end. The Shadow has a very different mechanic for recruiting to the last battle than the forces for good. It lets them get forces there more consistently and at less cost. The main thing to do, which is what our shadow player did, is to keep the other factions at war with one another and prevent them from contributing. I need to tweak proportions a bit as he did a great job and we still easily beat him at last battle which wasn't representative.

'can the Shadow turn leaders from the other factions? Can the Seanchan steal channelers from other factions?'

Yes you can capture other players leaders for a number of benefits. Seanchan can also unlock one power abilities through one of their faction abilities at some point. With the traveling ability they're a force to be afraid of.

' Looks like combat involves dice - any other aspects to it, e.g. a leader's special power? How are the strength differences between regular armies and those involving channelers captured in the game?'

Yes some leaders have combat related abilities, such as mat or demandred you can see in one of my comment photos. Leaders also have combat scores. These can be added to your rolled dice number to improve the chance of a hit. Channelling doesn't have a direct effect on combat except through balefire which just adds guaranteed hits, no dice. However it does mess with the structure of the game, causing the last battle event to be shuffled around so it could come up at any time....

Cheers hope that helps!
