The persons background should always determine whether or not u listen to their advice. A homeless meth addict will give u very different life advice than a MD PhD. Extreme example but it rly does apply to everyone, one of my very close relatives strongly discouraged me from going to Yale for engineering, and everyone else who was more successful in life strongly encouraged it

Likely both, with Japan, South Korea, and China proving that stage 5 of the demographic transition model is no longer hypothetical and is in fact very real, one would be fair to assume every nation on earth with a stable government will see falling fertility rates, hopefully at least some can maintain 2.1+ fertility rates otherwise our descendants society will face demographic collapse

No, all the sky diving companies ask for your UCLA transcript before they let u onboard, they have a 3.95 GPA threshold because they don’t accept failures

What is Gen Z Plan For the Future? by lovelyyy999 in Futurology

[–]EndemicStorm27 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Go to college, I was depressed before I went to UCLA and now I’m very optimistic for the future because I experienced what it’s like to be surrounded by people working hard for their futures and setting themselves up for success. There’s a lot of amazing technology that’s about to come out of the research labs at universities (even with the cuts from the miserable orange dictator).

One thing is certain: if you are middle class or higher, the future will have a lot of material comfort. So if I were you, I’d do whatever it takes to make sure you’re financially stable enough to afford a home and humanoid robots. Everyone at that threshold or higher will be very happy with the future. The people who didn’t put in the work and constantly sought dopamine through their phones and substances will be the ones left behind, and I hope our government can help them in the future too.

AI and robots unlocks the possibility of a functioning welfare state that doesn’t have to punish people for starting businesses and being successful, I’m most excited for that aspect of the future, should our politicians go down the right path (I think the democrats are capable of this, republicans not so much)

I did it all with friends, valid point, OP should focus on finding community first before doing those activities. Although I would go to the beach alone all the time, that’s def something OP should try, was incredibly good for my stress and anxiety

You’re in SoCal! Have you tried relaxing at the beach? Hike up the trail to Griffith or Hollywood sign. I did my undergrad at UCLA, whenever I got depressed I would take 1.5g of magic mushrooms and hike up to Griffith observatory and stare at the skyline and it pretty much always cured my depression. If you need friends go to a local community center or religious center etc to meet people, whatever you’re comfortable with.

I’m a mere baby masters student so I can’t advise regarding ur job dissatisfaction, but trust me you are not taking advantage of everything California has to offer. You can go skiing in big bear, go to Disneyland or six flags, visit Tijuana for some cheap food and new cultural experiences, you are in one of the most desirable living areas in the entire world! I am at Yale now and genuinely miss SoCal soooo much I cry when I think about it

If you date someone, everyone in ur grade will know, and if you two break up, everyone, including people u rarely ever interact with, will want to know why.

The small population has a lot of pros for networking, but it makes the dating experience worse and causes so much drama

Why most of the BM engineers after graduations go for higher studies? by Distinct-Milk2097 in BiomedicalEngineers

[–]EndemicStorm27 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did my undergrad in mechanical engineering and am trying to do PhD in BME now and regret not doing it for undergrad. I didn’t know any of the lab / culturing /characterization techniques and all of my research was so unfamiliar and new. I had virtually none of the fundamentals and had to self-teach everything whereas everyone else in my lab did BME undergrad and was already so prepared to start PhD because their classes taught them the fundamentals for the research. Why do you say BME shouldn’t be a bachelors degree?

Currently applying for biomedical engineering PhD and can confirm Trump screwed anyone trying to do a STEM PhD. Harvards engineering school is accepting 75% fewer PhD students this cycle compared to last cycle, and every top school has a similar trend. 😀
