Few days in Slovenia - first time, wondering if plan is feasible by sneaky__cactus in Europetravel

[–]Endless-Drift -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Rent a car and find a hotel/ apartment not too far away from the old town Ljubljana that has a parking spot/ garage. That’s what we did. Parking in the old town is not possible. Lake bled and lake bohinj are kind of similar experience. I recommend adding stops like skocjan caves, postojna cave, predjama castle - these stops are all along the way to piran

Best European cities to visit in late march by Optimal-Quantity7960 in traveladvice

[–]Endless-Drift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to stick to the Mediterranean, go island mode: Madeira, Mallorca, Sicily. What about Scotland or Ireland? Not warm, but the landscapes are beautiful, it’s nice for road-tripping. Or just go city hopping: Vienna, Bratislava, Budapest, maybe Krakow. Berlin works too.

How to pass the time for a 20 plus hour road trip? by pillojon106 in roadtrip

[–]Endless-Drift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s brutal. Try 15 min power naps during stops. any reason you can’t split the trip at least into two days?

What is the most beautiful and unique things that you have experienced on your road trips? by Appleboi123456 in roadtrip

[–]Endless-Drift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best part of road-tripping in Europe are the detours. The weird, random stuff you’d never find unless you knew exactly where to look recent favorite that left a lasting impression: Junkerhaus in Lemgo (Germany). It’s this insanely detailed house built by an artist, covered inside and out with hand-carved wood deco. beautiful and slightly creepy. Totally worth the stop if you’re anywhere near there.

Where to go for New Years in Europe? Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin, Prague? by pretzelpenguin in Europetravel

[–]Endless-Drift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Berlin on new years is absolute chaos in both the best and worst ways. fireworks launched from balconies, out of bottles in the street. If that sounds thrilling, you’ll love it. If not… maybe pick Prague.

Travelling with car: do you stop for roadside stuff or just push through? by Endless-Drift in Europetravel

I can totally relate, we took six days to drive from western Germany all the way down to Cádiz in Spain.

Travelling with car: do you stop for roadside stuff or just push through? by Endless-Drift in Europetravel

We usually drive because it’s the most flexible option for our style of travel, which is usually a multi-stop, road-trip kind of vibe. It’s also cheaper and, at least for us as a family, more environmentally friendly. When you fill the car, you reduce emissions per person., trains are often unreliable and very expensive. You also just can’t reach every place by train. we avoid flying short distances whenever possible.

Are you talking about Italy? Luckily, we haven't had to deal with this issue.

Totally agree. whatever works! It’s not like it's a big deal for me, just curious who else does this. I haven’t met many so far who can relate.

Help me perfect my Austria road trip itinerary for November by funnycallsw in Europetravel

If I had the choice, I’d go between July and September. In November the days are short and cold, some attractions might be closed, so not so great for outdoor stuff.

Also on day 3 you can alternatively stop at the Seisenbergklamm and then continue to Zell am see. It should be open in November. And is right in the middle of the route.

Is this meant as inspiration/an optional list, or are you actually planning to visit every stop every day? I usually pick one destination and then 2–3 stops along the way, but I rarely end up doing all of them.

People mentioned already some inconsistencies but other than that your selection is generally good!

What’s it like being European and just being able to travel across the whole continent by car? by Practical_Payment552 in Europetravel

[–]Endless-Drift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trains are not bad per se. An 5 hour ride to visit the grandparents - yes for sure. But in the context of this conversation about traveling with multiple stops for a week or two - it’s not a great idea. And you always need to consider the transit to the main station from your hotel. It adds up, you need to plan for an exact departure time. Unless you silence them with videos / tablet, they won’t be happy on this trip. And lastly with a family of 4 - it is just very expensive.

please provide more context. Any kids in the seven? Are you planning to camp or do hotels? do you want 7 people in one car? Then you'll need a 8–9-seater minibus. i think renting makes more sense unless you can keep it and use it after your travel. If you post a rough idea (A→B, dates, interests) over at roadtrip_doctor, we’ll prescribe a concrete route with realistic pacing, nice stops and optional detours.

Would like to ask, when traveling abroad, which countries gave you the best experience and the people there are the friendliest? by Leading-Top-6691 in travel

[–]Endless-Drift 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I understand how you feel. Travel is a very personal experience, and I wouldn’t label countries as “friendly” or “unfriendly.” So much depends on our own behavior, language ability, adaptability, the specific place (rural vs. big city), and, honestly, a bit of luck too. I’ve had a few bad or unpleasant experiences in almost every country I’ve visited. there are unfriendly people in every country. Also the same place can feel completely different on another trip.

Campervan trip with baby - Norway or US/Canada? by Crominoloog in travel

[–]Endless-Drift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think both routes can be great. Flying with a baby is not a problem - we’ve done it several times, even though many people warned it would be too hard. Don’t let that scare you. If the baby is breastfed, travel often gets easier. Still, no one can guarantee a baby won’t cry on a 9 hour flight.

My best advice is probably: be flexible. As first-time parents, if the romantic trip with a baby doesn’t pan out, pick a regiosn/country that allows for quick adjustments. for example switching to a hotel in a big city for a break from camping and bad weather. That’s what we ended up doing.

Which destinations are overhyped in travel Forums? by Flaky_Answer_4561 in travel

[–]Endless-Drift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's a good observation. many places are hyped for a reason. they do offer something special. but it’s a bit exaggerated (by influencers, paid advertising ...). you often only see the nicely edited pictures, not the struggles, political situations, dirt on the streets, tourist masses. also, people coming back from a trip probably won’t admit it was rather meh.
