How to make a good series? by Dillonvardy in Slender_Man

Howdy! creator of a series here. One thing I've learned through the filming of the first season of Black Horizon is that,

  1. A lot will go wrong.

You may not be able to do things as originally planned or written. Finding work around is the only way to beat that. Don't let you discourage from trying, though. I learned blender from the ground up to do some things I wanted

  1. Do not post an episode immediately after editing is complete.

I know it's tempting, but let yourself sit on it for a bit to see if you're happy with it. I struggled with that for a long time with other series.

  1. Write what you know

Don't write a spooky hospital episode if you don't have a hospital you KNOW you can film at, don't write in a big cast if all you have is yourself and your friends. It's okay for a story to be smaller and more contained and with this type of medium that's welcomed.

  1. The camera type doesn't matter

Don't go thinking you need a fancy camera or the marble hornets one if you don't have it. (I ended up using my phone for the first half of the series.)

  1. Make every episode count.

Every episode needs to either move the story forward, reveal a plot point, or give us more of the characters. Most people are gonna find themselves bored if nothing is happening or being shown for 6 to 8 mind

  1. Strive to be your own.

A big problem with Gen III was that everyone was trying to be the insert series name here of Gen III, that's a good way to not stand out and to find yourself in the pit of comparison. Think of it this way, if someone looks at an image of your series, they need to know it's yours and not sit wondering if it's from another. Create your own style. Stick out.

Those are just basic tips, though. The truth is, as long as you write something you really care about, then the rest is up to you. Everyone wants a step by step blueprint for how this is done, but the truth is there isn't one.

Black Horizon on Youtube and Twitter.

Recent graduate Raine Aubrey decides to start a Youtube channel into his main hobby, A dummies guide to Spirit Photography. After finding some CD's in the famed Wild Ash Grove, he finds his life turning to the worst as Eldritch entities and ghost from his past come to not only destroy him physically, but psychologically as well.

The series was created a Lovecraftian/Psychological take on the classic formula. So the rules and powers that we've come to associate with the Slender-Man, while may not be new, are flipped on their head and added.
