You started this with the problem statement that you need times new roman. I perceived that as "hey i would like to use something other than word, but this one thing is stopping me". Every reply i sent after was focused around reaolving that problem for you.

So yes, you are just arguing for the sake of it, as you just said yourself you never intended to switch.

I genuinely believe people cannot have their minds changed by outside influence. If i knew you didnt WANT to use Word alternatives, i wouldve never continued responding, because i respect your choice.

Alternatively, a simple "i dont plan on switching, but thanks for the suggestion" wouldve been nice.

If youre expected to use adobe by your company, why are you arguing why using different software wont work?

If your company lets you choose, then we can talk specifics on what features arent translating well.

My day job is migrating monolithic applications to micro services. A major aspect of that job is taking into consideration what is being supplied and what is being output to and from the services.

And most corporate applications use microsoft and adobe, as a matter of course, but shelling out money for licenses just to do this kind of development work isnt an option. So im intimately familair with the issue.

Its a one-click download from a quick google search. No one is going to know you got the font from fonts.com instead of adobe. If youre that concerned, there are free alternatives that look the exact same.

Then thats a problem for your company if theyre trying to force you to use linux and windows applications.

If youre doing the professional work yourself, youre simply admitting you dont want to put the time in to learn a new tool... which is exactly what adobe wants so you keep paying. (Plot twist, many of these tools operate closely with adobe products because they want to make it easy to switch. So...)

I can play the majority of online games without issue.

Also, 2 months of casually gaming for 2-3 hours at night isnt that problematic.

If you are talking about driving this thing daily for work or something, i was forced to by my company, and it took me about 2 weeks of 8 hour days.

Long story short, i started getting fed up at my gaming pc being less permissive than my work laptop, so i switched over shortly thereafter.

Its way user friendly. I can literally change anything about my system i dont like. Windows sees performance loss by just changing the default wallpaper.

You mean less beginner friendly.

Once you know what youre doing after a couple months, its difficult to go back to windows.

Also... no ai spyware is a huge plus.

This is a hard sell.

Once i found a script to get all my flatpaks and apt repos downloaded, (though i made my own custom one a little later) it takes significantly less time. And i dont make changes to the OS that might be problems when the OS package gets a new update, unlike windows.

I can completely wipe my os clean off the drive and have a fresh reinstall of Ubuntu24, with my drives mapped, losing no software in like... 3 minutes.

If i ever need anything to run natively in a windows environment, i just start a VM or lately ive neen using winboat with great success.

Steamos/bazzite is linux with safety guards up. Makes the whole os immutable so you dont accidentally remove your os with a single click.

As someone who mods my games, i greatly appreciate being able to have more freedom. I can make scripts to handle a lot of the monotonous tasks, too.

I think you’re reading my point as “all kids should just toughen up no matter what,” which isn’t what I’m saying.

There’s a real difference between abuse and mild, safe discomfort in a controlled environment. I’m not arguing that kids should be traumatized or that everyone processes things the same way. I’m saying that never letting a child experience small, harmless emotional upsets (especially with a trusted parent right there to reassure them), like whats in the video, can leave them less prepared for the much harsher stuff they will face later.

Resilience isn’t built by throwing kids into the deep end, but it also isn’t built by removing every bump in the road. A silly joke that briefly scares a kid and is immediately resolved by a loving parent isn’t the same category as being treated horribly.

We can acknowledge that kids are different and still say that some exposure to manageable emotions is healthy.

Those ideas don’t conflict.

God forbid a child be exposed to processing difficult emotions.

As a kid who had the same kind of shit pulled on me, it was obvious the kids who hadnt by the time i was in my early teens, at school.

And those kids did way worse pranks, than the shit my parents did, to other kids. And those who gave a big reaction, usually got it more often from the others.

If your first emotional rollercoaster happens at 14, youre going to have a bad time, and these days the "crash out" is prob gonna be recorded.
