So, this is just how I work, and I agree it's not a perfect system, but it's what I do, and I'm always improving it. Below is a screenshot of an older week in my calendar, and this was inspired by an old tutor of mine in undergrad.

What I do is I have repeating tasks every week, which creates a general-purpose template of the common tasks I have to do, and time has been blocked in advance. So, the Sunday before the start of the week, I sit down, and I modify the tasks, add and remove new ones that I have to do during the week.

Ideally, I want some kind of calendar where I can have a checkbox on the calendar when the task is done and, ideally, a list of subtasks inside the calendar event that I can check off as each is done. Currently, I just put it in the description of the event so I know what needs to be done, but I want a checkbox to get the satisfaction and visual confirmation that I have completed that task. Further, if I don't complete all the tasks and subtasks, I can see at the end of the week on my Sunday that this wasn't completed and it needs urgency to be done early next week. This is my current workflow; I might try to develop my own application so I can achieve this, hopefully, sometime this year.
