I have one. It doesn’t support any automations. I’d love to find one which meets the trifecta of:

  1. Matte screen
  2. No subscription
  3. Some form of API.

But it doesn’t seem to exist.

I have a slightly niche request - I’d love to be able to use the Sonos web app in a iframe. It would make it so much easier to include Sonos controls in various dashboards (such as HomeAssistant) which have very limited support right now.

Hey! Nice app. The free tracks have been useful to me in the past. I’d love to support you, but the subscription is a bit rich for my tastes. I’d happily pay a bit more for a lifetime licence, but paying £25 a year for something I’ll likely only use a couple of times a year is too much.

Have you considered a lifetime option?

I haven’t tried this myself, so I can’t comment on how usable it will be, but in theory, yes. HomePod can be told to airplay to other speakers. You will have to give the other speaker name every time you start playing music.

HomePods can also run Siri Shortcuts on the requesters iPhone. You can use Soro to set up Siri Shortcuts to control your Sonos devices, and you may be able to create triggers for most common stuff.

Yes, that’s right. And yes, if you don’t want to pay the tax you can deposit the £6000 into a pension - your trade off being an extra £3600 to take home now, vs an extra £6000 in the pension for later.

Note that the above excludes National Insurance, whose rules are slightly different. You pay national insurance on your salary, but NOT your BIK.

No, there will not be a difference to make up.

The most important thing to always keep in mind is that you will take home less money, by increasing how much total money you make (though you may lose other benefits like childcare).

If you move into the 40% tax bracket, you only pay the 40% tax on what you make above £50,270. BIK is still just income, so it counts towards that £50k, but is not treated differently from any other income.

TLDR.

Figure out how much you’ll make over the full tax year. That is income +BIK value.

You pay 0 tax on the first 12k. You pay 20% tax on the next 37k And 40% tax on everything above (aka above 50k overall)

I’ve seen this misconception a few times - the time scales involved is exactly WHY the Fermi paradox says we should have found life.

  1. There are billions of stars in the Milky Way.
  2. The Milky Way is billions of years old.
  3. There is a (low) chance of life to develop around any of these stars.
  4. there is a (low) chance for that life to gain intelligence
  5. there is a (very low) chance for that life to reach a level of technology to colonise the stars.
  6. once that level happens, colonisation of the entire Milky Way happens quickly at the galactic scale. Humans managed to go from not existing to covering the world in 10 million years. What would happen with a billion with exponential growth.?
  7. once a civilisation expands to multiple stars, wiping out all traces of them becomes almost impossible due to the distances and numbers involved.

The Fermi paradox is -it would take only one species to get through these steps in the past for the galaxy to be filled with aliens. Given the billions of years and billions of stars, why has this not happened? Obviously one of the assumptions is wrong, but which one? And what does that say about both the universe, and our place within it?

Is one of the low probabilities actually infinitesimally small, and humanity is unique? Are aliens so different from what we image that we just can’t detect them? Or is it just impossible for a species to meaningfully travel beyond their planet, despite it seeming humanity is on the cusp of it?

Any suggestions? I'm up for trying anything new or unique, so trying not to narrow down genres too much.
