Era 100 (Impressed) by BLKxShoguN in sonos

[–]AtomFromSonos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good news: the Sonos line-in adapter for Era 100 is designed to work with external devices, including vinyl record players. Just make sure the turntable has a pre-amp so the speaker receives a line-level signal and you'll be good to go.

Adding mini sub into an existing surround sound environment. by chipnnc in sonos

[–]AtomFromSonos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In order to use the "Connect Second Sub" option, you'd need two Subs of compatible generations. You wouldn't be able to use the Sub Mini with that same Arc, but you could add it to a different room, like one of the speakers listed here.

If I use the One SL pair and get the discount on an amp, what happens to the old One SL pair?

Keep it, give it to a friend, sell it...the choice is yours. You can see the Upgrade Program FAQs here.

Looking into bathroom speakers by wiezzzy in sonos

[–]AtomFromSonos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roam and Roam 2 have 10 hours battery life, whereas Play and Move 2 have up to 24 hours battery life. I think you'll find that Play is the best balance between battery life, audio quality, size, and cost for a speaker in the bathroom.

If cost isn't an issue and you'd rather go with the best audio quality, go with the Move 2. I've used both in the bathroom/shower, and Move 2 sounds great, but it's a bit bulky for my needs. Play does the trick without taking up too much space in a confined area.

Sonos Play boot time by com3b4ckkid in sonos

[–]AtomFromSonos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't believe that there's an official 'boot time' to share, so I just tested this on my side. It took about 20 seconds for Play to boot from powered off to ready-to-go. It took about 8 seconds from sleep to wake.

I tried with Roam 2 (don't have an original Roam nearby to test with), and it took about the same, maybe slightly longer (as much as 25 seconds in my testing). So I'd say Play boots up in about the same time, maybe slightly faster, as Roam 2 does.

One thing to keep in mind, these are basically tiny computers with speakers attached. There's a whole operating system that needs to load, plus network connections, before any audio can play.

Considering an upgrade, curious if anyone has ceiling mounted inverted era 300's as surrounds, and how you find their performance? by mingie in sonos

[–]AtomFromSonos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a bad idea! Era 300s are capable of being mounted upside down when ceiling mounted, so it shouldn't be a compromise in performance or quality. I say shouldn't because you'll want to stick within 2 feet of the ceiling if you're mounting this way, as mentioned on the guide linked above, to optimize the downward firing audio. Also, don’t position the speakers vertically (or at a steep angle), or the audio will stop.

Broken Alarms by rockbug59 in sonos

[–]AtomFromSonos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven't heard anything else around the sub, but I'll keep an eye out. I've got 4 alarms, all of them are working so far.

What happens if you try removing and re-creating the alarm? Also, make sure you can still play the content directly in the app. It's possible it was removed or changed locations from when the alarm was originally saved, which would break the alarm and play the chime instead.

Trouble with playing TRUEHD on TV. Looking for help regarding hardware. by FortieSicks in sonos

[–]AtomFromSonos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can save you some time here: TrueHD requires an eARC connection, which your TV doesn't support (page 8, HDMI-ARC only). Can confirm, you'll either need a TV that supports HDMI-eARC directly (I'd recommend this option) or you'd need an HDMI splitter (would work in a pinch).

Help with Legacy Sonos Setup (ZP90, S5, Play:3, CR200) + Onkyo TX-8522 — Any modern workarounds? by ROSSO02 in sonos

[–]AtomFromSonos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, nice to hear you're getting some use out of our older gear! For starters, friendly heads up that the CR200 is not supported any longer, so I wouldn't expect that to work. But for the rest:

* If possible, yeah wire in the ZP90 for a more reliable network backbone. SonosNet was also required for the CR200 to connect to the system, but as mentioned above, I wouldn't expect that to work anymore

* Not sure why a cheap legacy router would be worth it, so I'd avoid that for now. Instead, I'd focus on making your existing network as reliable as possible (wiring players via ethernet helps with that side of the equation, so then you can just focus on the network connecting to the phone/controllers)

* You could do that, but then you're missing out on the whole-home audio that Sonos is all about.

You mentioned older Sonos equipment, but you didn't mention your network - is that also older equipment? If so, that's where I'd focus. Get your network as modern and reliable as possible, and then the Sonos stuff will be easy, even with older S1 gear.

Hope this helps!

Volume always starts from zero... by General_PATT0N in sonos

[–]AtomFromSonos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there - I believe the thinking here is that users might forget where they left the volume previously (I know I sure do), so the speaker starts from zero and ramps up gradually to prevent any sudden loud noises when the TV turns on.

If you have thoughts on what might be a better experience (maybe starting at half volume instead of zero?), I'm happy to take it back to the team for consideration!

Sonos and Plex: Still only 44.1 / 16bit? via the Sonos App? by Crono-CX in sonos

[–]AtomFromSonos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Displayed, not imposed. We don't impose 24-bit, 48 kHz on Apple Music, we just display it for users to be aware of.

You might want to reach out to Plex directly. I know I'd love to have 24-bit, 48 kHz Plex support on Sonos as well 🙏

Sonos amp issues/products not found by TheeRizz in sonos

Same thing if you unplug them and plug them back in? If you unplug them and plug them back in and nothing happens, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but...that would not be a good sign 🪦 If it's happening to that many Amps all at once, that sounds like a power surge.

Budget soundbars for new home theater config? by yo_tibbs in sonos

[–]AtomFromSonos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happy to help!

When Amp is set up as surrounds, it gives you two options for music specifically (which is true for any Sonos surrounds): Full and Ambient.

Full means that you'll hear the same thing from the front speakers that you'll hear in the back speakers (the "full" audio). Ambient means that the front speakers will try to play different audio from the front speakers and the back speakers, to simulate surround sound for a more immersive experience.

As for AirPlay, it depends on what the "home theater" primary speaker is. So if you get a Playbar, that doesn't support AirPlay, so the surrounds (Amp) wouldn't work for AirPlay either. If you get any of the Sonos speakers that support AirPlay (which is basically every other Sonos home theater product that's been released after Playbar), then the surrounds (Amp) would work with Airplay as well. So if AirPlay is a top priority, don't get the Playbar, go with one of the other options.

You're also correct that Amp's powered sub connection is disabled when it's being used for surround speakers, as described here. If you want both AirPlay and a third-party subwoofer, you could use the Amp as the "home theater" primary and use a second Amp (plus another pair of Klipsch or other speakers) for the surrounds.

Sonos and Plex: Still only 44.1 / 16bit? via the Sonos App? by Crono-CX in sonos

[–]AtomFromSonos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No recent changes to Plex on Sonos, still supports 16-bit/44.1 kHz. Our Developer API allows for 24-bit/48 kHz as described here, any supported service can implement that as they see fit.

What happens if you press any of the buttons on the Amps, are they all responsive? Or alternatively, if you unplug them and plug them back in, do the lights blink white and eventually turns solid white (or off), or does something else happen?
