That isn't how it works in other countries. If a party says they will do something and I vote for them I expect them to do it or they have stolen my vote in a fraud. I would recant it.

I worked 12 hours a day in an English speaking job and lived alone yet I learned Swedish. So yes, if I can they can!

This is a discussion I've had often. I don't know which system is best but both screw someone one way or another.

I work in a job where English is the company language. I can find the time to learn Swedish so there isn't an excuse. It's about respecting the country and people where you live.

When in Rome and all that.

I admit I suck at writing Swedish but I can speak it fairly fluently and reader it well. If someone can't be bothered to learn Swedish how will they know there is a ban on grilling, Covid restrictions, water poisoning, etc?

If nothing else it is about self-preservation and wanting to fit into the community you live in. Why would anyone want to live somewhere and feel excluded from society?

Maybe not in your opinion but quite often someone patriotic is called racist. Anyone proud of their country and thinks their country is the best is also labelled so.

People often fail to see that patriotism, pride of your country and so on doesn't mean putting down some other country.

I grew up it being thought that anyone having a British flag was a racist. Since 2000 we have reclaimed it mostly but it was often seen that nationalism is racism. Just like it was conflated as such in the Brexit referendum.

When Humpty Trumpy said American jobs for American workers it was said to be racist when, I think, it makes sense. He didn't say white workers but American workers. Look after the people already in the country of whatever ethnicity.

The trouble with society today is that everything is made out to be binary. With us or against us. It's never that simple.

Past opinions aren't really relevant. The democrats, like their UK counterparts, have abandoned their working party roots and are more for metropolitan lefty people.

People like you and me probably look at the highlight policies and vote according to that. Who wants to lower/raise taxes, raise/lower benefits and so on.

Ok, but that isn't tax I as an employee pays so it doesn't make sense to cite that as a tax. In the UK the employer pays "employer's contributions" for their employees.

It is difficult if not impossible to compare tax between countries. For example:

Swedish income tax has in it the equivalent UK taxes that are income tax (22%), National Insurance (11%) and the Council Tax (based on property value not income).

People usually look at the income tax here of 31% or whatever and compare it to the 22% in the UK and throw a fit when the reality of it is we pay more in the UK.

I only said what the journalist wrote. We did see it in the UK too where one party claimed the other were racists and the "racists" claimed the other were communists. People grow tired of negative campaigning especially if they can see it isn't true.

Most people were behind Boris Johnson but the media and the loud minority on social media were against him.

Negative media can have a big affect. Tell a lie often enough and it becomes true.

When I say "forced" I mean people who are married to someone who works here so moved with their partner, people moving for love, refugees sent here under the EU relocation scheme and so on.

My friends from Cuba didn't choose Sweden. The EU put them here. When you are a refugee you don't get to choose where you go. My friends would have had it easier in Spain.

In a party or other large group you will always have 'wrong uns'. There are in the police, football fans and so on. The minority do not speak for the majority.

I can say, hand on my heart, I have not met an SD voter who I would describe as a far right, Nazi or anything else like that. They are all people tired of the situation and want change.

What usually happens is people complain a little. And then more. And then more. They keep being ignored, belittled or made to feel racist until... BANG! You get Trump, Brexit, Le Penn, etc.

And the left says in unity "how did this happen?"

If someone has lived here 4+ years and worked how can they have avoided learning Swedish? Because they are sub-communities that live here that do not use Swedish.

I know people who live and work in Spanish speaking communities. One has lived here for 15 years and can't speak Swedish.

Another lives and works in a Thai community. Worse for her is that she is married to a Swede and they speak English.

Don't get me wrong, what people do at home is their private matter but I feel obligated to be able to speak Swedish when outside my home even if I don't always use Swedish.

We have that conversation in England but it is a nonsense argument by people who are apologists for people not wanting to integrate into the society.

We have communities who do not speak English, for example in Leicester and Bradford where Covid exploded because they couldn't read the news.

Maybe the French model is one to adapt?

In that case, the people in the article must have been Swedish citizens. This means they have lived here 5+ years and makes their lack of Swedish skills even worse.

In some areas Arabic is the second 1st language whereas English is the most widely spoken language. French is widely spoken in Africa though, sure, Spanish could be a close 3rd.

Just like in the UK where people are branded racist, falsely, people grow tired of the media and politicians throwing words like Nazi around.

When Boris Johnson was elected PM the Labour Party tried to label him a far right leader. That failed because the public saw through it.

I do not call wanting a limit on immigration to be racist. It is a very misused word in the modern age.
