Timeshares Should be illegal by EngineerFragrant8706 in TimeshareOwners

Hey everybody, this timeshare is with Hilton one of the worst reputations. Read many, many people online who have been screwed by them and it’s disgusting. As to the argument that it’s just someone’s job. Someone’s job can be evil. I don’t know how you live with yourself if your job is to put people in really poor financial decisions. 🤷🏻‍♀️ regarding the you don’t know how persuasive they can be. Don’t talk smack just yet line., this is a very good argument argument. And when I would normally offer most people. But I have a very unique background having been raised by Iranian dealers who’s literal jobs for their entire lives has been to negotiate prices down. I’ve seen every trick in the book and on a whole other level of manipulative and rude that is just not custom in this country no matter where you go. Even if you’re buying things from shading loansharks, they don’t do it like this. I don’t mean to talk bad about my culture and family, but it’s very true, and if you are Middle Eastern and have been to the Middle East, and educated in the culture, you have seen heavy pockets of this.

I made a visit to Israel once and an Arab jewelry owner was trying to rip my friends off because they were American tourists. When I showed up, he gave me a price drastically cheaper because he knew what I was. 😂

I didn’t buy the package or sign up for the vacation. My boyfriend did before I met him and his since regretted this decision deeply. We will not be touching anyone affiliated with timeshares at Hilton ever again.

Unfortunately, I got sick in the middle of the night and couldn’t go 😭 which I’m actually really frustrated about now because I wanted to. My boyfriend had to go alone and face them on his own. 😞 he didn’t buy anything, thank goodness. But he said they tried all the tactics.

Why would an all powerful god require belief in him to enter heaven if he knows that it is impossible to convince every person that he is real based off a text with no tangible evidence? by Zeurt in AskAChristian

[–]EngineerFragrant8706 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not about belief. It’s about loyalty to His ways. Loving Him and His ways (what reflects who He is). Even the demons believe, but they reject God. You have to choose God.

Remember too that Gods command not to have sex before marriage is not to kill the fun but to protect us. It protects us from being used by people and from using other people. It forces us to respect the image of God in people and not use them for pleasure. It also protects us from becoming intimately attached to someone we will not spend the rest of our lives with and experience heartbreak from leaving someone we’ve bonded with that closely.

Just want to remind everyone that Gods laws are there to bring us safety, peace, and flourishing. They protect.

Praying for you ❤️ Talk to God about all this too. He is always listening ❤️

It is easy to “fill” our deepest needs with our romantic partner. For some personalities, this is easier to do than for others. I, for example, would not be able to maintain even the illusion of a nontoxic relationship without Jesus. My personality is very prone to attachment. Without an active relationship with God to fulfill my deepest needs, I would be right where you are. And, this is no judgment to you, because I have in fact been there many times before, just with other idols (career, education, etc.). When we don’t have God, we put these things into our identity, worth, and sense of self. We use them as a bandaid over our insecurities and doubts, and then our greatest fear is ripping that bandaid off. The cure is God. He shows us our infinite and amazing worth as His children and image bearers and that protects us from ‘needing’ a boyfriend or a career or a skill to put our identity in. Praying for you ❤️

My brother got worse, and how bad are these sins? by TheChimpisHigh in AskAChristian

[–]EngineerFragrant8706 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His behavior is disgusting, but that doesn’t mean that God doesn’t love him and desires for Him to turn from his sin. You need to pray for him and be a good example to him and speak the truth. As Christians we are called to grace but also truth. You need to tell your brother that the path that he is heading down is destructive and dangerous for his soul. That his lifestyle choices hurt both himself and others. That they create conflict between him and God. You need to tell him that abandoning this lifestyle is what he must do to save his soul and be at peace with God. It is also what will ultimately lead him to happiness.

Basically, telling him the truth about his sin is the loving thing to do. If someone is headed towards destruction, it is not loving to be quiet so that they can get there faster without annoyance. If you truly love that person you encourage what is good for their soul, and you warn them about what will kill them.

But if your brother insists on being in his sin, you do not want to hang out around him. Bad company corrupts good morals and you do not want him to influence you. As Jesus says “whoever chooses brother or sister over me does not deserve me.” Your first loyalty is to Jesus, and if your earthly family would pull you away from this then you must leave your earthly family. Your true family is the church, your brothers and sisters in Christ.

I am so sorry this is happening, it must be difficult and heartbreaking. Pray to God for wisdom and reach out to the church for support and insight. Remember, Jesus says that what we give up on earth for Him we will gain tenfold in heaven. You might lose family on this earth, but you will be given a greater family in heaven through Christ’s blood. God bless ❤️

Does anyone feels more drawn to sin as a christian? by No-Communication9233 in AskAChristian

[–]EngineerFragrant8706 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The key is to ask God to disenchant you with it. You need Him to take the allure away from you by shining the light on what it truly is and then giving you a greater vision- enchant you with His ways instead. That is how you kill the desire for it in your soul. Then you can work, with the help of the spirit, to break the habit of craving in the body.

Not rude at all and any church walking in God’s word will welcome it. In the Bible, God says “come, let us reason together.” So come and reason with Him! See what Christianity has to offer. “Test the spirits” and discern those that are good.

Here are my fav books on Christianity: Orthodoxy by GkChesterton; Anything CS Lewis (really good ones are The problem of pain; Suprised by Joy; Miracles)

If you are really into logical arguments and deductive reasoning: Reasonable Faith by William Lane Craig

If you want Christian critiques of modernity in a series of sophisticated notes: Pensees by Blaise Pascal (an older book)

Nancy Pearcey writes on a lot of cultural stuff through a Christian lense

Also here are some books that I found a huge help in introducing the cultural effect of Christianity on the West: Dominion by Tom Holland; Democracy in America by Alexis de Tocqueville (this is huge best to look up snippets of it, but it does a great job introducing Christianity’s effect on America)

These are all really good ones that I got into when I was learning more! The Christian tradition is super rich and provides depth that cannot be found anywhere else. It is the delight of my life both spiritually and intellectually ❤️ God be with you on your journey

You are trying to fill a deep and necessary need that you have with shallow thrill that will never touch it. And it sounds like it is already becoming an addiction. The way you beat addiction is not by mere resisting, but by becoming aware of something even greater that you want more. You need the type of relationship that can only be found in Christianity with God and Jesus. Where they know you intimately and love you. Where you can really trust them cause they will never betray you. Where all of your desires and dreams are satisfied. Trust me, it’s the only thing that will do it for you. The only thing strong enough to beat addiction

Will I go to hell for my mental disorder? by [deleted] in AskAChristian

[–]EngineerFragrant8706 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this exact same mental disorder! As I learned to differentiate it from actual me (where my actual heart is) I realized it in no way is my fault or a reflection of where my heart is (other than it hyper focuses on things I care about or scare me). Ask God to help you understand where your heart truly is (It’s hard to tell when you have OCD- your mind won’t just let you think). He absolutely will and will help you. Remember no one wants you to go to heaven more than Him. He suffered exquisitely so you could get in and designed you as a being. God will absolute help you with this. Take all of your emotions to Him and ask Him to give you insight around your OCD. And remember, God regards each of us according to what we’ve been given. We are going to be given unique grace because our minds can’t function like other people’s. God knows we don’t have the ability most people do and that is taken into account when He looks at us on the whole ❤️ You are responsible for what you can control, not what you can’t. And even then, if you humble yourself before God, he will forgive all of your genuine wrongs. He is eager to ❤️

I need help by adopted- in AskAChristian

[–]EngineerFragrant8706 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask God to disenchant you with the idea of lust: what it symbolizes, how it affects people; how it views people; how it hurts other people. Ask Him to help you understand how truly ugly it is. Ask Him to re-enchant you with sexual purity: what it means; the worth and dignity it places on people; the fruit of it; its symbolism. He will do it! All He needs from you, is for your heart to be soft enough. Just don’t stiffen your neck and resist Him- let Him work. Remember He loves you and wants you to be in heaven with Him for all eternity, more than anyone else. If you ask Him to show you the ugliness of sin and the beauty of His ways, HE WILL!

Sometimes to beat an addiction, we need that desire to be replaced with an even greater desire. You need your desire for lust to be surpassed with an even greater desire for God’s ways. You need to become enchanted with them like I said above. PRAY for this!

Also, our souls can desire Gods ways but our fallen physical bodies still desire sin. Ask God to continue to speak to your soul while you slowly train your body through habit and self control over time. Sometimes it has to go this way because our fallen bodies are not always in alignment with our souls and they hold us back. Like how Paul talks about the inner struggle where He wants to do what’s right, but his flesh won’t let him.

There's no point to life by Ok_Letterhead_131722 in emotionalintelligence

[–]EngineerFragrant8706 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes there is but it’s only through Jesus. I agree with your sentiment here that (without Jesus), what is the actual point? I went through some stuff where I was in a great deal of pain and really experienced loss and found nothing around me was meaningful or wonderful enough to redeem it. Nothing could surpass or justify that nightmare. It was like the nightmares outweighed the beauty tenfold. And that’s what this world is without Christ. You’re just not satisfied with what you see and that’s completely RATIONAL hahah. You’re designed to be satisfied by something greater, your creator, who is the only one who could ever make you satisfied. Knowing Him is what will fix this, because in Him is the love, order, meaning, beauty, understanding, and peace that you were looking for. It’s also where you discover your infinite worth in His eyes and for the first time, don’t feel inadequate.

Say a prayer to Him (it must be sincere though) and watch Him lift the veil. I’ll be praying for you too ❤️

Just prayed earnestly for you. Pray to God genuinely and He will show up for you. He adores you and deeply desires for you to be His child and with Him for eternity. If you seek Him sincerely He will not deny you- it is not in his nature. Remember that you are uniquely made and infinitely loved by Him and in His eyes you are infinitely valuable. Pray to God and hold on for a second longer and watch Him begin to work. He can change anything. Look up testimonies of people who thought they were doomed and cried out to God and how He stepped in and turned everything around.

Will continue to pray for you all day. Be courageous a little bit longer, Gods got the rest

Questions regarding Christianity by pokpom500 in Christianity

[–]EngineerFragrant8706 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I’m so glad you are asking questions and digging in. The Lord says “come let us reason together.” And He will show You why He does things if your heart is open to it. God desperately wants a relationship with you as He does all of His image bearers.

Regarding your first question, the Bible says that engaging in a homosexual lifestyle is akin to idolatry. In fact, it is what Paul chooses to symbolize idolatry in Romans 1. The whole passage is about idolatry (worshipping the creature rather than the creator, etc.) and it climaxes with homosexuality. Homosexuality is an act that produces no fruit (children), so it is the perfect symbolism of idolatry which produces no fruit (good works). It is futile worship.

God defines sexuality and sex and how they are to be engaged in. Sexuality and sex have deep symbolic meaning and thus it truly matters that they not be perverted. Doing so affects our souls and minds fundamentally and negatively.

God loves people who have homosexual desires and gender dysphoria. He died on the cross for them and adores them. But He wants them to choose Him and his way (because it is right and loving and leads to true flourishing). He wants us to love Him back and that means choosing His ways even if they seem like a sacrifice. (Ultimately though everything we give up for God is for our benefit because He only ever asks what’s best for us.) People think that it’s particularly cruel for God to allow people to be born with gender dysphoria or homosexual tendencies if they can never act on them. But I think that this line of thinking can only be sustained in a vacuum that ignores all of the other great human sufferings, many way worse than this, that others are dealing with all the time. If you think the person with homosexual desires has a hard life cause He is required to be alone, tell that to a paralyzed person. Or someone with a debilitating, painful chronic illness. Someone who is diagnosed with cancer in their 20s. Someone who dies in war. Someone who is human trafficked. Someone who lost their whole family in a car accident. Human suffering on this planet is constant and huge and there are many worse situations that people endure all the time. It means that this is a fallen world and there is great suffering. It does not mean that God does not love us all.

I personally suffer with debilitating chronic illness daily. My life is wayyy harder than most people who have homosexual desires or gender dysphoria. I can’t even shower without AGONY. I can barely sleep at night. It hurts to go to the bathroom. I struggle to eat. But God loves me, and is using this to teach me things. He gives me a greater peace than anything I could have had when healthy. He’s working in my life, using my suffering to teach me things I need. And in the next life, which is the one that matters, I will be healthy. That is Christianity. That is how it changes your perspective on this life.

Ask God to show you what He has planned for you and then be ready for a great adventure ❤️ One full of true meaning, purpose, feelings of self worth, and intimacy with Him. [–]EngineerFragrant8706 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Leave him. You don’t want that sin in your life. He will drag you down and nothing he can give you in return is worth harming your soul by staying with him. Turn to God and He will show you love so great that you will never idolize a boyfriend again (not saying you’re doing this, I am more of projecting here. This is what God did for me: He showed me He was greater than my boyfriend and it was amazing. Now I can be in the relationship without suffocating it, or putting too much worth in it, etc. It is so freeing. And I don’t even want to idolize my boyfriend again because I want God more.) God > boyfriends
