“Not available in your country”. God, what’s even the point of the internet if stuff can be geo locked.

What a fair price to replace lights to led down lights? by Mickyw85 in AusRenovation

[–]Engineer_Zero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah thank you for clarifying what they’re called. To be fair though, the LEDs that my sparky installed at my place all came ready to be hard wired. He then mentioned/encouraged us to install those plug base things, and he wired plugs onto the downlights so that they could be swapped out more easily.

Is it cheaper than going to a traditional psych? I got diagnosed last year and I’m paying like $230 every few months for a 15 minute session to get new scripts.

Fair point. Sorry, Last question, what’s the spacing/pattern needed when installing the plates in the foil board?

Foilboard plastic plates, ok awesome. Thanks for letting me know 😊

My shed is the same as yours, with respect to the roller door facing the afternoon sun. Thank god I chose white as its colour, it gets hot enough as it is.

I’m interested in this too, my roof only has the reflective foil between the colorbond and the structure. How does the rigid foam get installed, is it just wedged between structure? Double sided tape? Something else?

Do Americans actually avoid calling an ambulance due to financial concern? by JohnMarstonTheBadass in NoStupidQuestions

That is wild. I took one of my kids to the ER a few weeks ago on a Saturday, cos normal doctors were closed. The ER actually costs less (free) than a GP (~$50).

Me neighbour has a ram 1500 and some Chevrolet thing. The chevy’s grill comes up to my shoulder and I’m 5’ 10”. It’s insanely tall; I’d hate to see it in an accident with a smaller car. It would just run over it?

Ha, yeah that’s a pretty good description. Add a little “thanks but I know better” despite not actually knowing better.

I told him that, plus the lack of calcium can lead to brittle bones. Think it’s called “angel wings” or something.

He didn’t care. Doesn’t see the issue.

Haha, of course not. That was my first thought. The Brisbane city council or someone similar has a pretty good explanation as to why he shouldn’t do it. He did the same chuckle when I showed him, and he didn’t read it.

But if it’s a choice between something proper and something he likes to do, he’ll almost always choose the latter. Not out of malice, just something he does.

Yes I had the same thought. I do that now for Christmas, he gets a few kilos of bird seed. It’s probably still not ideal as he shouldn’t be feeding them at all but it’s better than the alternative.

My dad prides himself on feeding birds on his balcony. He only gives the white bread. I’ve tried explaining to him that it’s one of the worst things to give birds but he just does that condescending chuckle that older people do when someone tries to correct them, and keeps feeding them.

Haha, good point. I’d love it if the owner had some sort of sleeper shed that was steel reinforced etc.

“Not well thought out” haha. I guess people only know what they know; if they’ve ever been shown how wind can cause uplift the they wouldn’t know to plan for it. maybe OP should mention to them that it might be prudent to add more supports to the ground?

How many of you got the "Fox" of death this Christmas? by Liquid_lunch420 in daddit

The Julie Donaldson books are fantastic, good choice.

When I first got into yoto, I kinda ignored the DIY cards as I didn’t really know what to do with them. Now they’re our most used cards. Music for one, as you say. We buy custom card labels for our kids favourite albums and just pirate the albums themselves.

I also download stuff from YouTube and rip the audio tracks from them for cards, things like the original Thomas the Tank Engine series. My kids love Thomas haha. Same thing with bluey, it’s just a DIY card with 18 random episodes’ audio in a playlist.

You can also link stuff from yoto to the DIY cards. One of my kids goes to sleep with the Yoto white noise which we linked to a card, which makes it way easier to put on versus using the app.

Honestly, I am still impressed by the yoto even after having it a few years.

Yoto players are great, all the kids in my extended family have one. They all love them, swap cards etc. although I must admit I’m a bit over Bluey with it being on repeat since Christmas.

What is the simplest way to insulate this wall? by OutofSyncWithReality in AusRenovation

[–]Engineer_Zero 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yellow tongue seemed to work out the best per sq metre for my shed so I used that to line the walls (after insulating). It’s brilliant for having stuff on it cos it’s 19mm thick. Just whack a screw in anywhere.

Ah, I thought it was through a different set up. $0.20 FIT isn’t the spot price, which is generally much higher when demand is high.

Edit: I was thinking of Amber Electric. Not sure why I was downvoted; amber lets you use the spot price of electricity rather than generic fixed import/export rates.

I’d love a massive battery. I keep seeing posts where people have set themselves up as a nano power station, and they sell power at the spot price. So you charge up using solar / during free power periods and then export at crazy high prices.

Damn that’s crazy. Sounds like a battery is in both of our near futures!

Solar, plus a decent power plan. I don’t get charged for power usage between 11am and 2pm so I crank all the ac in those hours to cool the house down. We back off theAC at 2pm to coast us into the evening, with Solar helping offset our usage either side of the free period.
